NEW YORK (CPI —- A ba- zooka. bedecked with a Cuban flag. fired a single shot across ille East River at United Na- tions headquarters Friday. The shell exploded alarmingly but harmlessly in the water 100 yards short of the building.

Police said they believe the shot. was intended to hit the UN.

Inside at the time. in the sealed-off UN General Assem- bly hall. Cuba's Ernesto (Che) Guevara was attacking United States. The blast from the river rattled windows in the 38 - storey international head- quarters. But the noise did not penetrate the chamber and Guevara was not illterrupted.

Outside, simultaneously with the explosion. wild confusion broke out. A ‘ Communist Cuban pickets surged against police lines and a leather-jack- eted woman in black. waving a knife and screaming hyster- ically in Spanish. tried to force an entrance to the building.
