FIRE YESTERDAY— A vacant abattoir on the Kensington Road, Just beyond the Exhibition Grounds, was slightly damaged in a late afternoon fire yesterday. The blaze was creeping up the side of the building when firemen ar- rived on the scene. However, they were able to extinguish it without difficulty. Origin of the blaze was IIHKHQWII to the authorities but it is belLeved to have started on the outside of the wooden building. It was formerly used by Roop‘; moot firm. morning and afternoon in Chat- lotfetown. About 80 officers are at- tending the classes which are - ing conducted by LL-Col G. E. Pull. V.D., A.D.C.

These officers have been ap- poLnted on the occasion of the r8- organization of the Light Horse Bl a Reserve Regiment. The unit was recently re-organlzed by Lt-Col. E. W. Johnstone and comprises 1.- 000 men, which is 50 per cent more than the original number called ifror the Reserve Army in this prov-

On Wednesday afternoon and evening. A squadron and headquarters, and attached groups, will hold tactical exercises west of Charlottetown, A similar exercise will be held in the vicinity of Kensington for Prince Qunty on Wednesday and on Thursday the exercises for “C" gquadrqn will be held at St. Peter's.

at his home yesterday morning. came as a. shock to his many friends. He was enjoying his usual good health on Saturday but was suddenly stricken early yesterday morning and died before medical aid could be summoned.

Born in Charlottetown. the de- ceased lived here all his life and was a highly respected citizen. As a young man he entered the employ of the Prince Edward Island Rall- way as a machinist. After spending 15 years at this trade, he left lt to 0 n a grocery store. For the past 4 years he has conducted a success ful business on the corner of Syd- Ilfiy and Cumberland Streets in the O Y

He was an active member of St- Dunstans Basilica and has been a member of the Holy Name Society niflthe parish for many years.

He is survived by his wife, form- erly Etta McQuillan, one daughter. Mrs. Thomas B. Creighan, and three grand-children.
