The Financial News of London, remarks that the unfortunate, but un- importrnt, riotous outbreak between French and English elements in Mon- treal the other day has doubtless gratified the hearts of disloyalists and foreign enemies, but if these persons could read a speech from the Canadian “Hansard,” which is now before us, they would have to modify their tran- sports. The speech was made a month ago, in the Ottawa House of Commons, by Sir Adolphe Caron, a representative French Canadian. It was an impassioned defence of the

loyalty of French Canadians. Sir Adolphe maintained that, so far from there attaching the slightest

breath of suspicion to the loyalty of his branch of the Dominion’s citizens, were the matter ever put to the test it would be the French Canadians who the most keenly any disaster to the Empire, and would set the example of unswerving loyalty. We believe that Sir Adolphe Caron echoed the sentiments of the great majority of the Canadians of French race. The small minoritycounts for no- thing: have we not a smalll minority of disloyalistsin the Mother Country, who have not even the excuse of alienextraction.
