These lectures could be given by the provincial Red Cross organ- izer. Dr. H. D. Johnson -without additional expense to the province.

1n a recent report on the condi- tion of one 0f the principal schools in the province it was stated: "That the walls were dirty, wood- work dusty, patriotic pictures un- clean! the toilet rooms unsanitary and Ilthy. This we believe ‘is the general condition of schools in the province, particularly in the last item; many of them with-windows out. doors off the hinges, and not cleaned out for years. The ef- fect upon the children, both san- itary and educational under such conditions must be very injurious. in very few schools is there any effort to paint. whitwash or in all! lwayl beautiify-Qthie buildings and grounds. Too often any effort by the teacher is discouraged. but more frequently the teacher might do more than is being done to in- duce the children to keep the grounds clean. There is nothing in a community which so marks refinement or the lack of it as the care of churches and school buildings. -'

Next week the annual school meetings will be held throughout the province, and we think it oppor- tune to call the attention of the people generally to the above cod iliflons which in‘ many cases only need attention drawn to them to be remedied.

We believe Your Lordship will sympathize with us in this unusual- depart-um on the part of the Grand Jury. as you have ever taken a deep interest in educational matters in the province.

Two Airmen Lost. ‘ Lives in ‘Iludum

TROY, N. Y., June 19.-—D0n Campbell. 31. and Henry Beattle. 18, or Waterviict. were killed and Schuyler ‘Mocllarle, 22. of Albany. seriously injured this afternoon when a giant hydro-airplane piloted by Campbell was wrecked in shal- low water in the Hudson River about 1-25 feet south of the new federal dam. Campbell, the pilot, seemed to be executing a nose dive after flying exceedingly low over the grounds of the Laureate Boat Club. Evidently he was not high enough to complete the dive and the nose of the machine struck the gravel bottom.

Captain William A. Niw of the boat club headed a rescuing party which was hampered b ythe tide rising so fast it threatened to drown Mocharie before he could be extricafed. The machine was‘ owned by the Hudson Valley Air Line and was being tuned up for passenger carrying. It had been operating between Albany and New York.
