In the March Quarterly rmecting of the Brick Chureh, in 1875, a rew Board of Trastess was appointed with instructiens to purchase a piece of land and erect a suitable building. And on March. 23, 1875, they bought the site now oxeupied by this church from the Hon T H Haviland.

In November 1876, the contract was !et to erect the present building, and in October i877, the Free Church was closed, and this present church opened.

The building was erected and planned with especial reference to Sabbath School work, and was expected to be used eventually and entirely for that purpose. The addition now beisg built is carrying out in part the original desiga, which was a church eighty or nivety feet long, and fifty foet wide, with the present. building across the end forming a 7 and known as the school building.

Such a general state of dirtiness outsid. of houses, leads one to look for the same within, What I know sbout these I will not say, but I may remark that it has never before been my fate to be admitted into private houses by such a siatterply class of servants. Untidy scarcely describes the state of dirty face, unkempt hair, and ragged attire in which many of these maids appear; but it is probably a case of like mistress like maid.

The people of Charlottetown may or may not be clean in their private buildings, they are net certainly in their_public ones. Soch places as the old Post Office and the Province Building, will be remembered by all; but one conld pardon this if the churches were clean. Churches are used less often than any public building, and in this town they are generally the dirtiest. Not long ago I attended service in the Roman Cathedral, and the place was exceedingly offensive. Shortly afterwards I was at St. Paul’s Church, and the filthy state of the pewin which I sat would be ineredible to anyone who had not seen it Thess things are not only dishonoring to human nature, but insulting to the worship of God.
