Fish Plants At Souris Closing For The Season

..'Some '15 to 50 persons have been laid off at Souris as the m. letlng and chicken haddie canning plants close down for the season. ,Full employment is slightly more ,than 100. Skeleton crews are kept on cleaning up.

Three draggers sailed Sunday and if their catch in the next few days exceeds scnie 25,000 pounds, the filleting plant will re-open for a short time to process the catch. Otherwise the fish will be shipped

the mainland, it was learned. possibly to Portland, Maine.

Navigation out of Souris closes on Tuesday and fishing will come to an end then.

Iris regretted that Mrs. Arcliie MacLean formerly of Little Sands. now of Murray River, has entered the Montague Hospital for treat- ment. All hope Mrs. MacLean will soon be much improved in health and able to return to her home.

The teacher, Mrs. Alden Blue and pupils of Little Sands School are preparing a Christmas entertain- 'ment to be held sometime before ,Christmns. Much extra work is re- 'qulred by both teacher and pupils and the community wishes them success in their endeavours.

Everywhere people are preparing and talking about Christmas. How isad that to many it is but a time of cnlebration, with scarcely little or no thought of the real meaning inf Christmas. To some it does mean the Birthday of the Christ Child. As we give gifts to one another and send gf'eet.in;:s in each other.

.."llhe death of Mrs Gertrude Herring occurred suddenly in Charlottetown yesterday morning in her out year. The docauod was the widow of the late John Herring of Murray I-fsmbour, and she is survived by one son, stan- ley, of Burlington, Ont. one sis- ter. Mrs. Freeman Reynolds, Mur- ray Harbour, now residing in Man- tague, also survives. Mr. Robert Machon, Montague. is a nephew.

Officers elected were: honorary president, Harry Mallard; presi- dent, E. Foch MacDonald; vice- president, William Pierce; sec- retary-treasurer, John D. Mac- Intyre; welfare officer, Francis C. White; sergeant-at-arms, Joseph A. Cheverie. The officers will be installed at a meeting the sec- cnd week of January.

All reports for the year were adopted. It was decided that all correspondence to the welfare officer be sent or left at the Legion Rooms and that the wel- fsrs officer would be there to take care of it at regular times during the week.
