The concert and athletis show given in the I O F Ball by the Y MG Assaciation on Thursday evening the 15th instaut, was a great success. The hall was packed to the entrance, and standing room was at a premium. Somewhere in the vicinity of three hundred people attended, and by the storm ef epplanse accorded each number on the programme, I can unhesitatingly say that it was heartily enjoyed. Mr. H, Ceffir. acted as chairman, and excellent order prevailed. The programme con- sisted of a pleasing variety, being musical, luerary and athletic. The soloby J D McIntyre was well rendered and elicited much applause, as was also the duet by the Misses McAulay and McGillivray. Mr. A McAulay, of Tracadie, brought down the house with'® Pat Casey of Tam- many Hall,” and being encored he gave a Gaelic song producing a similar effect. ‘The dialogues and readings were presented in @ particularly pleasing manner. It is not necessary to particularize as each part was ably bandied. The step dancing by J J McKensa, Jr, was more than enjoyed, being encored three times. “Litt e Jack,” as he is jocularly called, is a gem on the stage. The stump speech by Edwin Griffie, on “ Woman’s Rights,” almost paralyzed the audience. The exhibision of the cheat-drili by the junior members of the aseociation was performed in a praise-worthy manner—reflecting much credit on their esteemed teacher, Mr R Pigott. Messrs Bambrick and Down haadied their trambourines in a manner calculated io evoke reuuds ef applause. The musical part ef the programme was under the direction of Mesers Barrett and Affieck, and there was nothiag lscking in that part of the entertainment. The act ing om the parallels sreught down the house in right style. MrJ MeAskill acted the clowo—asd Jaek is not like a one thatcan’t de it. Lam eure the sudience must bave beem badly shook up as was evidenced by the roars of laughter during the performance. The managing com- mittee, Messre Ceffin, McAski!ll and Douglas,are to be congratulated on making their frst concert such a decided success. The proceeds amounted to twenty-five dollare, which wil] go tuwards equipping the gymoasium. The association meets twice a week, Tuesdays and Saturdays, at 7 o’cleek p m, when our genial secretary- treasurer, Mr McAskill, will be more than pleased to enroll members after paying the initiation fee of ten cents.
