f ‘HE Board of Works at St. John’s, Newfoundland, has given

Notice, that on and after the 27th day of June, [565, a light ,

will be exhibited from a light-house recently erected on Mercer head, the south-east extreme of Brunet Island, Fortune Bay.

The light will be a ﬂashing white light, showing a ﬂash every , ten seconds, and visible in all directions except when bearing,

between E.S.E. and South, when it will be obscured by the inter- vening high land. the mean level of the sea, and in clear Weather should be seen from a distance of about 25 miles.

Mercer head is a bold head land in lat. 47° 15" 30" N., long. 50° 51’ 50” West of Greenwich. I; All Bearings are Magnetic. Variation 29° :15” West in 1865. ]

AMES LAIRD, of New Glasgow Mills, Esquire, one of llcr Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for Queen’s County, having recently publicly aided and assisted a certain association, known as the Tenant Union, or Tenant League, contrary to the Proclama- tion of llis Excellency George Dundas, Esquire, Lieutenant Governor of this Island, dated 22nd March, 1865, His llonor the Administrator of the Government, by and with the advice of Her Majesty’s Executive Council, was this day pleased to direct that the name of the said James Laird be removed from the Commission

r Willi Corporation of the Port of Dublin has given Notice, that a. Dell and Deacon boat has been placed to mark the position of . haunts rock, otl' Roberts head, near Cork Harbour.

The Beacon boat is colored black, with the words Daunls Rock in white letters on the superstructure, which is surmounted by a ball. 24. feet above the sea, and lies in, 12 fathoms at low water springs, = at nearly 1,1 cablss S.S.W. of the rock, with the Telegraph tower on Roche point in line with the peak of a distant mountain hear- ing Ni). .11}; and the gable end of a white house in Roberts cove ‘just open of the north-east side of entrance to the cove N. 4‘ E.

The Beacon boat rides by 80 fathoms of chain and will therefore- occasionally swing near the rock.

The buoy which has hitherto marked Daunts Rock remains in. the same position as before.
