A quiet and pretty wedding was solemnized recently in the Church of the Assumption. St. John. New Brunswick, when Rev. C. J. Mer- cerneau united in marriage Mary Laurette. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Peters, Prince Edward ‘island and Edward Arthur son of Mr. and MrsJLeo Butler. St. John. New Brunswick. The beauti- ful altar oi the church was made more lovely by a profusion of cut flowers. and the guest pews were marked with bows of white satin ribbon.

The bride was gowned in a dress of white sheer. slipper breath hav- ing a sweetheart neckline and trirrliied with sliver sequins. he!‘ veil oi tulle caught up with a cor- onet oi orange blossoms fell in graceful folds to the floor and ex- tended in a train. She carried an arm bouquet of red roses and for- get-me-nots.

The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. Clement Steen who wore a slipper length gown of baby pink sheer. with neckline and wide bod- ice trlmmed with silver beads; she wore a shoulder length veil oi pink tulle and carried a bouquet oi pink roses and fern.

Veleran Tignish Medical Docior Passes _Ayay

A veteran medical practitioner in this Province, Dr, J. A. John- ston, 86, of Tignish, passed away yesterday morning in the Western Hospital at Alberton. He hsd fall- en seversl weeks sgo. fracturing a hip, snd since then had been in hospital.

He practiced medicine for about 50 years in this Province. Grad- uaiing from McGill University in 1897, he practiced at Emerald, P. E. I., until 1904 when he moved to Tignlsh where he resided since. He attended Prince of Wales Col- lege and taught school at Emerald and Wellington before beginning the study oi medicine. He was a charter member oi the Charlotte- gown Council Knights of Colum-

The closing exercises of Tigriish Shore school were held on Wed- ncsday, December 2i at 7 pm, in the presence of a large number oi parents. ratepayers and visitors.

Among the visitors were Rev. Louis Dooley, zisistant priest at Tignl-‘h. MF- C. F. Morrissey, Mr. A. A. Bcrrlard, Mr. Gilbert Gaudct. and Mr. Leo Maillait, The schoolroom was tastefully decor- ated and the beautiful Christmas free was laden with appropriate gifts for the children.

Her many friends in Freetown and vicinity are sorry to hear that Mrs. Joseph Webster oi Imperial, Sask. had the misfortune of be- ing injured in a fall at her home which necessitated hospital treat- ment, Mrs. Webster was formerly Miss Ada Reeves of south Frec- town - all hope to hear of her complete recovery.

On Thursday evening. Dec. 2'2. the pupils of Freetown school held their Christmas concert in Free- town Hall. An excellent program was put on and at the conclusion Santa Claus arrived bringing n treat for all the children. Miss Georgina Matheson and Mr. J.B. Lewis are teachers in this school.

The Cantata, "The Nativity", was presented recently in the Keir Me- morial Church here, by the Pres- byterian choir in Kenslngton to an appreciative audience. Christmas services were duly ob- served in the United Church on Sunday inst. At the morning wor- ship Rev. James Cross, pastor. prcachedan excellent sermon on the text, "For onto you ls born this day Jesus which is Christ the Lord", the story oi Christmas, the secret of Christmas ls the Cross, let inspiration from the Birth rind the Cross enter our lives. The anthem, “Behold I Bring You Good Tidings", was sung by the choir; also carols led by the choir. At the evening service Rev. Mr. Cross led in the devotion; a male choir sang the anthem, "The Christmas Story", by Wilson, acceptably Mr. Cross gave a short talk on the ori- gin and author, previous to the singing of several Christmas carols.
