James H. Crocker has brought a civil suit against H. A. Cropley, publisher and proprie- tor of the Fredericton Capital for recovery of $5,000 damages for libel—alleged defamation of character. The writ was served by Sheriff Temple on the 24th: Gregory & Blair are the plaintiff’s attorneys. Mr. Cropley has retained Fraser, Wetmore & Winslow, for the defence.

Messrs Davipson & Cricnron, of Halifax, dry good merchants, recently received a letter from a Roman Catholic clergyman of Char- lottetown, P. E. 1., enclosing $895 as _-estitu- tion.
