The Cabinet met yesterday; ministers were present.

The Times says: ** The ministers met only to confirm by common accord conclusions at which the country had arrived. If the result be only negative as far as present action is concerned, this only represents | the almost unanimous desire of the country. There is to be no ultimatum or contingent declaration of war. ‘There will, moreover, be no astumn session of Parliament. The Cabinet did nothing which can jusiify the prevailing fears of British participation in war.

MEMORANDA.

Monpay’s Stornu.—One of the most disas- trous gales, the like of which 1s seldom wit- nessed on this Island, sprang up on Sunday night Jast, about eleven o'clock, and it con- tinued up to ‘Tuesday morning, when it moderated considerably. The wind blew from the south-west. The shipping in the harbor suffered severly from its effects. The Jessie, owned by Charles W. Strong, Esq., anchored some distance from the Railway Wharf, broke clear and was driven against the west side of the wharf, where she became a total wreck. The Leader, owned by John Young, collided with one or two other ves- sels, and became dismasted, had her bul- warks stove im, and wes considerably damaged by striking against the wharf where she was driven by the wind. The Onward, Capt. Ellis Kennedy, was run into by the Leader and had her main boom and figure- head carried away. She was also chafed badly. The Eleanora, belonging to Richi« bucto— a new vessel—and the Eliza A., of N. S.. were chafed through in two places, by rubbing against the pier. The Eleanora,broke clear from her anchorage and lost one of her anchors. The brigantine Willie and the Foaming Billow, and another vessel lying at the east side of the wharf escaped without injury. The sch’r. Adelaide, from Quebec, loaded with fish and fish oil, putin here on Sunday, and ran on the bar where she be- came waterjogged and sunk. The brigantine Zulieka. lying at Holman’s wharf, after re, ceiving some slight injuries, was let clear of her moorings, and auchored in tae stream where she safely rode out the storm. The sch’r. Arrow lying in the stream had her stern stove in by the Leader running foul of ber. The other vessels lying at the wharves and inthe harbor escaped the fury of the storm, Throughout the town many traees of the violence of the wind are to be geen. Several buildings with unsafe foun- dations had to be propped up to keep them from toppling down, A new barn being built by a Mr. Rogers, of the Linkletter Roa,d near the residence of Mr. Finlay Mc- Neill, was blown down and completely wrecked. Fences were blown dowr in many places, and trees siripped of their branches and in some cases torn out by the roots.— Journal,
