Tignish is rising rapidly and splendidly from its ashes. Already the black loca~ tions of the destroyed buildings, in most cases, ar2 converted into sites of better edifices than before graced them. Besides, there is new ground broken. The railway is building a new agent’s dwelling and offices combined; and Dr’s. Murphy and Doiron have selected new sites in better locations. The cottage which Dr. Murphy is building is a real beauty—one of those large commodious and artistic dwellings which satisfy the eye at the first glance and give a total stranger an idea of the ) sort of men that live there. J. Albert Brennan has his new store well under way—almost ready for habitation. The Messrs. Myrick & Co. have erected large if not very beautiful sheds in which they are now doing business but which when their permauent buildings are raised will serve as warenouses and sheds. Char les Dalton, Esq., has a nice neat cottage about ready ,for ,occupation a new drug store built on the site of the old one. L’Amable Bernard will do business in a eplendid store and workshop on the corner of the two principal streets, His store is awell finished and well desigsed one within and without and in its upstairs pcr- tion he is fitting up a cosy and convenient C.M.B. A. Hall. Mr. Carruthers, Mrs. Weeks and Mrs. Walsh have nice dwellings completed. John J. McLellan’s new store and dwelling occupies the old site and iooks well.

At Peter Kinch’s, whence the fire orgin- ated, a long string of out-buildings and a comfortable new residence have sprung up, phcenix-like, from the sad ashes of the old establishment. Capt. Frank has not yet commenced to build him a new post office, but enjoys well equipped quarters in Law- rence Perry’s store on Water street, where he is ready to greet you es smilingly asa just initiated Benedict. The worthy and respected M. P., Mr. Hackett, just home from his parliamentary labors, has taken rooms atthe hotel. His is a severe loss, and he has not quite made up his mind as to building. Mr. McElroy is at work on a large sample room next to L’Impartial office, which he will operate in connection with Belleview Hotel, of which he is the genial proprietor. Mr. Cahill, the energetic

and esteemed “Phil,” has puchased’a new house from Mr. L. _Perry on the outskirts of the village, and is at work putting it in order. We regret that there is no attempt being made to replace the perfect little hostelry so worthily presided overin the past by the Misses McKenna, Bat their turn may soon come,

There may be other enterprises which we did not notice in our burried glance; but those are the principal ones, and suffi- ciently demonstrate what is generally claimed, that for right down energy, aa and progressiveness you must go West. Such a scene of activity—such hammer- ing. and sawing, and hoisting and digging we have not seen east of Chicago. And the genial cure steps around regularly to every centre of action, his imposing pre- sence and hearty word of encouragement inspiriting all. As he is a man of means, it is whispered about that the sinews of war have come, in a number of cases at least, from his well-filled coffers. Certainly no better use of money could be made than in assisting the unfortunate to build comfortable homes. When housed this time, the citizens of Tignish will be better off than ever; and we congratulate them most sincerely on their good taste in building, their courage and determina- tion. Such men are model Canadian citizene, and no “ pusilanimous flock.” Schurman, Lefurgy & Co. have the greater number of the contracts, including Dr. Murphy’s fine house and the railway buildings.

eee LIGHT, LEAN PORK WANTED,

The following letter is in line with the advice that Toe Examiner has repeatedly tendered its readers :

Dear Sir,—lIf you are interested in the farmers of your section growing hogs to suit the market requirements, we wish you would bring to their attention a few sug~ gestions regarding the most desirable class of hogs.

While a few years ago the demand was almost entirely tor heavy fat pork, a com- plete change has come about. The demand is now for light deshy meat. The only cal! for heavy fat pork is from the lumber camps, and there the American heavy fat plate beef is fast displacing fat pork. What the market requires now is firm meat from 110 to 189 Ibs., well streaked with lean. The market is not simply for a hog of light weight. If the meat is not firm and fleshy, containing a large proportion of lean, but is a mass of fat, the hog of light weight is as unsuitable as one of 300 Ibs. or 400 Ibs.

To produce well fed lean meat from hogs of 110 to 180 Ibs. at six months of age should be the aim of every farmer. The most desirable breeds of hogs for the

urpose are the improved Yorkshires aid Rates. while the foods best adapt- ed for producing ican meat are cat, bar- ley, peas, beans, shorts and skimmed milk. Yours truly, B. & M. Rarrensury.
