Rev J H Lidstone, of Haitland, Maine, preacbed in the Presbyterian Church here on Sunday evening. Mr Lidstone is a native of P E Island and has spent four weeks vacation at the old home at Cape Wolf—Summerside Farmer.

MEETING AT YORK.

A very enthusiastic meeting was held at Little York last night to discuss the pro- hibition question. The beautiful little hall was crowded with ladies and gentlemen, evidently interested inthe coming plebis- cite.

The Rev R Opie presided with his usual dignity, and Mrs Opie and a choice choir rendered some excellent music.

The first speaker was Premier Far- quharson, who delivered @ very racy and interesting sddress, showing the import- ance of the movement und need for « full vote on the question.

D A McKinnon, ML A, wasthe next speaker, and dealt with the common sense and the financial sides of the ques- tion.

The next speaker wasthe Rev W J Kirby, of Charlottetown, who dealt with tne three questions (1) Why am I in this fight for prohibition? (2) Why are rum< sellers in the liquor business? (3) Why are church members in this business ? Each point was illustrated and evidently enjoyed by the congregation.

After a few questions had been asked by members of the andience, the meeting closed with the National Anthem.

The prospects are for a full vete for pro- hibition in thia section, and there are not likely to be many who vote “no,” or who stay at home on the 29th.

Scorr Act.—Before Stipendiary Ma- gistrate Blanchard at Georgetown yester- day James J Campbell, of Cardigan, was fined $50 and costs for violating the Scott Act. The two cases against John G Scrimgeour and one against Daniel Skinner were adjourned for one week. The sum- mons against Elizabeth Campbell was dismisseed.

A Newsparer Cuance.—The Quebec Morning Chronicle has been sold to asyn~ dicate tor the sum of ten thoueand dollars. It is reported that Mr. Wallis,of Toronw, is to be made general manager, and Trevor Foote, son of the late editor and who is fin- ancially interested in the paper, is to hola a responsible positi¢a in the counting recom. The politics of the paper will be conser- valive.

Priare Guiass.—The first pane of bent plate glass ever placed in a store window in Charlotietown has been successfully placed in Johnson & Jobnson’s new store in the Prowse Block by R. B. Norton & Co. The pane is large and fits like 4 glove. This firm have also supplied the rest of the glass for the building and have secured the contrac’ tor all the glass in the new Roman Catholic Charch at Lot 65. This makes the seventh large order that the firm have secured this summer.

CLercrman RemempereD.—The Rev. I. R. A. Macdonald, of St. Teresa’e, was on Tuesday evening presented with addresses from the Holy Family and Children of Mary. Accompasving the addresses were a writing desk and several pieces of fur- viture. The rev. gentleman made a fitting acknowledgment. Previous to his departure from Charlottetown Father Ignatius was spiritual director of these eocieties and the beautiful and useful gifts and kind addresses tell the story of his popularity.
