Poultry Club Visits Morel! And 0lheLCenlres

On August I the Kingsiboro- Red Point Junior Poultry Club were taken on a. tour by E. A. Holland of the Dominion Poultry Services, If. M. Mac-Icon, Pro- vincial Department of Agricul- ture, and John Robertson, Kings- boro.

The weather was very favour- able and the Club had a very'en- Joyablc and educational tour.

Starting from Klngeboro the group, trwenty-four in all. motor- ed to Moreil. where the first stop was made. Here the group were shown through the Co- operative Registered Egg Grad- ing Station and Mr. E. Holland ex- plained grading of eggs, stressing care in handling before the eggs reached the Grading Station. From here the group continued on to the Experimental Farm where Mr. Lorne Ra-msay, Pouliryman. explained R. O. P. work and the poultry program as carried out at the Farm. Here the group also saw the large new round hen house which has just been com- pleted.

After lunch at the Rendezvous Restaurant at Southport, the group was taken to Mr. Ralph Raylnor's R.O.P. White Leghorn farm at Mount Hcrbcrt. Mr. Raynor took the group on a. tour of his premises, where they saw 1900 White Leghorn pullets on range. Here the pellet system of feeding is used with a. steady sup- ply of fresh water piped Id the range.

Inspected Laying House

From here Mr. Raynor took the group to his Double Deck laying house where they were shown the ventilation system, trap nesting, record keeping, etc. Here they also saw dccp litter shavings in one pen for two years and still in excellent condition. Mr. Raynor remarked that this attributed to his high hatchabllity which reached a high of 9264. for one hatch this year.

Here they also saw two-yeah old hcns still at 'l0'l.- production and a very fine pen of New Hampghire pullets crossed with White Leghorn. and smears 10 be an excellent dual purpose bird.

The gr;up was then shown the egg holding and grading room in the basement. and the hatchery.

Mr. F. M. Nash, District Super- visor Poultry Services. Domin- ion Department of Agriculture. was on hand and gave the group a short inspirational talk on Clulb work, stressing the benefits to the members and their com- munity. The next stop was at. Canada Packers where the afoul? were shown something of the packing industry by Eric Coffin of Can- ada Packers.

Tile last stop on the tour was at the Island Chick Hatchery where they saw the last of the lost season. Mr. Angus Mllllgan. Hatchery Manager. explained the operation of the hatchery.

Miss Isa-bel MadDona1d, Busi- ness Manager, expressed the hope that the Club have a successful year. The members were then treated to ice crown.

The huts are being built to avert an army housing crisis in the event of a. third world war.

Once completed. they will be stored in canadisn ordinance .. houses. A festurs of the hull: is that they can be transported qulckw and erected in a matter of hours.

The huts are being built along o design developed by Mai. Alan Baliantyn of Toronto, formerly with the army's directorate of engineering development and now Washington liaison officer for the quarter-master-general.

CAR OVEBTUBNS - A 1938 model car overturned on the Charlottetown-Montague highwny about one mile east of Tea Hill around ten o'clock last. night. The car, travelling from Charlottetown landed in the ditch with its four wheels in the air. The occupant or occupants left the scene of the nccident without reporting the matter, it use learned.

ACCIDENT AT NEW PERTH- An accident involving a 1950 Dodge car and a tractor occurred last evening in New Perth. The car was proceeding from Pooie's Corncr in the direction of Char- lottetown, crashed into the back of the . tractor, throwing the driver clear. The tractor was practically broken in two. The grill and one lender and head- light of the car were badly dani- ugcd. Both drivers were badly shaken up but escaped lnjurles.-- M.

Forme:Cll'IoItn Clergyman Dies in Wichita; Kan.

Word was received here yester- sas, of Rev. Francis Butler, former. day of the death in Wichita, Kan- ly of Charlottetown who died yes- terday morning. Father Butler was 68 years old.

He was born here in son of the late Mr. Thomas Butler. After attending Queen square School he entered saint Dunstan's University from where he graduated in 1914. He studied theology in the Grand seminary, Quebec and was or- dained in Charlottetown on Dec. 23, 1917.

Father Butler was well known in Charlottetown and has visited here at number of times during his priestly life pratically all of which was spent. in Kansas.

He is survived by three brothers and three sisters. The brothers e Right Rev. J. J. Butler, Wichita. Kansas, Arthur in Rochford, Ill- inois and Dominic in this City. The sisters are Mrs. John R. Gil- lls and Mrs. H. C McMillan, Syd- ney md Mrs. John Jncobs. Hurt- ford, Connecticut. one brother, T. A. Butler. Charlottetown and a sister, Mrs. John T. Doyle prede- ceased lllm.

Father Butler's remains will be transferred here for burial and will be accompanied by His broth- er Rt. Rev. J. .1. Butler. Requiem Mass will be celebrated in Wichita, Kansas, Friday morning.

No Connection With Mlsalng Plane

The Oddfellowa and Rebekah: of the Maritime: and Newfound- lend continued their business sea- alona yesterday under weather conditions almost perfect. This brought a large attendance to all branches. The Rebekah Assembly concluded their sessions and havo- adjourneli for another year.

The Grand Lodge opened its first regular session in the Y. M. C. A. at 9 am. This session was presided over by Grand Master I-Ilscock with a large attendance of delegates. The first business WM Hllllolntlng committees to carry,on the business consigned to them at the session. after which the Grand Masters of On- tnrio.' Quebec and Maine were reported awaiting ndmlsglon 3; visitors. A committee rwas ap- pointed to introduce these viri- tors and escort them into the Grand Lodge. They were later called upon to address the Grand Lodge which they did and extend- ed the greetings from their sev- eral jurisdictions which was duly responded to by the Grand Mar.- ter. Later a delegation composed of representatives from the var- ious other branches of the Order was received and duly welcomed also. Several of them responded to the request for an address bv

Grand Lodge sessions were rc- assembled at 2.00 p.m. when the usual business was transacted. This was adjourned at 4.00 p.m. to attend the Garden Party under the auspices of the Committee at the Experimental Form. This was well attended and afforded many delegates, the opportunity to look over the farm and admire its natural beauty. Many Compli. mcnts were heard which came from many who were viewing ill for the first time. Refreshments- wcrc served by the Parkdale Wu. men's Institute and were of a high order.

Memorial Service

At 7.00 p.m. the annual Me- morial Service was held in Trin- ity United Church which was V01”? largely attended. It was pre- sided over by Rev. 1. Irwin and the special speaker was Rev. .7.

F. Frasen of Impcroyal, N.S.. Grand Chaplain of the "Grant; Lodge. who took his text from

the Vacant Chair. It was a pow- erful discourse and was specially impressive and explanatory to the members of the Order present. A special programme was prepared. for the occasion. and it contain- ed the information that 277 mem- bers of the Order had answered the call since last session.

The members repaired to the Forum where the Crimean Branch conferred the degree of Chivalry on three candidates. This is an honor degree and is conferred as n reward for outstanding aer- vlce. Toronto Boys Enjoy Visit

The sixteen Toronto school boys touring Eastern Canada who at- rived in Charlottetown Tuesday evening, and were officially wel- comed by Mayor MacDonald at a dimer at a Charlottetown restotlz-ant, spent an endoyable day sightseeing yesterday.

CHATHAM, 0nl., Aug. 8--(CF) -A man identified as Charles Cause of St. Thomas, Ont., was killed today when his crashed whllc .dusting crops in Harwich township on the outskirts of this city.

Police believe the plane was damaged while taking off. It. is the second such crash in Western Ontario this week. Last Monday Philip Puquet, 32-year-old form- er Air Force pilot from Souris, P. E. I., was injured when his crop-dusting plane crashed near St. Thomas. He has been given 12 blood transfusions in hospital and now is given a chance to re- cover.
