At least one book of the Bible is now printed in more than 1100 languages . . _ but there are still over 1,500 dialects in which not one word of the Holy Scriptures have beenprinted. The need for more translations is a pressing one because there is a spirit of inquiry about the world today which'many believe to signify an incom- ing tide of faith. Campaigns by government and Christian missmlns are creating a reading world. in Africa, Asia and the Pacific Islands and each year many millions of new readers emerge from the darkness of
illiteracy.
Will it be the light of .the Gospel which first illumlnes these minds through their new found gift * or will cor- rupting influences explolt them? The answer may well be found in our response to the plea of the Bible Socuety

E. C. White Dies At Age Of 72
The death occurred in the Prince Edward Island Hospital Friday afternoon of Edwin Cleveland White in his 72nd year.
Born in Charlottetown, the late Mr. White was the son of the late Edwin White and Adeline (Fowle) White of Charlottetown.
He was a retired Canadian National Railway Employee, serving as station agent at Ver- non for 35 years prior to his re- tirement, due to health, in 1946. Since that time he has
