In the County of Simcoe and Parry Sound, districts which were grouped in one vote, the Act Was carried by from 1,000 to 1 200 majority.

ferrible Accident.

NasHvILie, Tenn., Oct 10.

A terrible accident has ocevrred at Wer en’s Furnace, Kickham County. It was a rule that a signal should be given be- fore tapping the furnace that the blasts may be shut off and al] men get out of danger. The tapper, through neglect, tap- ped the furnace before the signal was given andthree men standing near were covered by a seething mass of melted iron and two of them were burned to death instantly.

The other man altempted to get out of the way, and waded through the melted iron, walking over 100 yards, and lived two hours in great agony. The flesh dropped off all of their bodies, leaving the bones almost bare. The tapper was also burned fatally. A mule and cart standing near were consumed by the river of melted iron which poured out of the furnace.

The Sheikhs of tribes between Khartoum and Shendy have arrived at Ambukol, and tendered their submission to the Egyptian Government.

Col, Kitchener, who is at Ambukol, telegraphs that a rumor is current there that the rebels have captured three Euro- peans with their dragoman. If this report is true, the prisoners are presumably Col. Stewart, Mr. Power, correspondent of the London 7J'imes, and Mr. Herbin, French Consul at Khartoum.

There is some hope that the lives of these three men may have been spared.

One hundred row boats forming part of the Nile expedition have arrived at Assouan. The Canadian contingent has passed Assouan in a steamer.

Fatal Accident

Hamitton, Ont., Oct. 10.

There were four men killed outright and several woundea by the explosion at the Hamilton Powder Mills yesterday.
