On the following evening, in company withthe Empress; he attended the dinner of the British Embassy, where he ate a good, but more - international and_ less thoroughly solid and Teutonic dinner than at Bismarck’s. He made extremely merry with Sir Edward and Lady Malet, whose path in the German capital has often been a thorny one. The Kaiser left this dinner at-8 o’clock and went to the concert for the benefit of the German Evangelistic Mission in German East Africa. He never misses an opportunity in showing how thoroughly German he is in_ every square inch of his body, and his enthusiasm in the performance of the duties attending his station is unbated. ’

It is worth noting that a change has come over the attitude of the entire Euro- pean press concerning William I. He is no longer rebuked for the crime of being young and the talk about the hotheaded- ness of youth has all disappeared. A large and well-founded suspicion has enveloped this portion of the globe to the effect that the people who are waiting for the Em- perer’s enthusiasm in the arduous duties of governing to work off will have plenty -of time for reflection. He has taken up his work in earnest and he is not laboring
