Liquor price hiked

The price of beer and shots in the Barn has gone up by 5a": to cover a rise in liquor taxes.

Student Union VP Internal Howard Beattie, who announced the changes. stressed they would not increase profits to the Stu- dcnt Union.

Used texts to be sold

The UPEl Bookstore is preparing a plan for a used book ser— vice to start at the end of April.

Manager Russell Stewart plans to buy old textbooks from student 5 at the end of next term and put them on the shelves next to new books starting in the fall of I985, thus reducing the

amount of new books he has to order. Stewart has been working on this plan for three years, but ac- cording to Student Union President Michelle Dorsey, he’s been

waiting for a commitment from the Union to approach profes-.

sors to ask them not to assign new textbooks every year, so that the system can work.

“Woodstock” reshown

The UPEl Economics Society will be presenting the film “Woodstock” on Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28 at 7 p.m. in the Duffy Amphitheatre.

Admission is $2.50, and proceeds will be used to establish a scholarship fund for refugee students at UPEI.

English Soc. get bucks:

The English Society has asked for and received a $200 dona- tion from the Student Union to offset the costs of the con- ference it is hosting in January.

The Society is budgeting $1550 in expenses for the Fifth An- nual Undergraduate English Conference. It expects [50 people from a number of universities to attend.

Blood donor clinic There will be a Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic on Thursday,

October 25 from 2 to 4 in the Gym. All students and groups are encouraged to give of themselves. \

Senate meets

Senate will meet on Friday, October 19 at 3 p.m. in the Board Room of Kelley Building. President Meincke will give the President’s Report, and there will be a discussion of the Smith Report on Long Term Academic Planning. All welcome.

Disciplinary members

Anyone interested in sitting on the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC), which deals with infractions of the regula- tions of UPEI, is asked to pick up an application at the Student Union office during business hours. '

Sub-orgs canned? .

Student Union President Michelle Dorsey thinks all sub- organizations except those which applied last year should be “eliminated”.

“We. still have listings for the Rifle Club and the Movie Club,“ Dorsey told a Student Union Council meeting Sunday night.

VP Internal Howard Beattie, whosejurisdiction includes the sub-organizations, disagreed, citing the mass confusion which would result if long-established groups found themselves suspended until they came up with a constitution and reapplied for status in the Student Union.

For one thing, the move would mean the sub—orgs would be banned from holding pubs and events in the Barn.
