—Dlits A'l.‘ MONCTON-Iriends in Albany learned with regret of the unexpected death of Mrs. James McMahon of Moneton, N. B., which occurred on Sunday, February 2nd. Mrs. McMahon who was seventy years old, was formerly Miss Lillian Noonan, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Noonan of Albany. Her husband predeceased her a umber of years ago. The late Mrs. McMahon was a woman of kind and generous disposition and was held in the highest esteem by friends and acquaintances. She was a devout member of the Cath- olic Church and received the last rites from her beloved pastor, Rcv. Fr. Savage. She leaves to mourn her loss five daughters and three sons, also three brothers and one sister. May her soul rest in peace.

Mrs. Lowther was much beloved by her neighbors and highly esteemed in her home community for her personal fine qualities and she was held in high regard also by the Searletown Methodist Church of which she was a devout member. She leaves to mourn one son Majorof Scarle- town, also one daughter Grace, Mrs. A. McKenzie, Kensington. Her husband predeceased her some years ago. Withher passing Scarle- town has lost a friend whose name will long be remembered.

ROME, Feb. 4-(A. PJ-The Fascist Grand Council determined tonight upon a "definitely fixed line of counter-action" in the event Italy is confronted with a "further tightening of shnctlons."

Nature of the counferactlon was not specifically outlined in a brief communique issued at the close of the grand council session.

The meeting, second within four days at which Miilssolini conferred with his advisers, lasted 2 1-2 hours. It followed an earlier ses- sion of the Supreme Commission on defence.

The Grand Council decided Italy had acted wisely in rejecting the manna-British peace proposal.

"The Grand Council finds there is full Justification for its line of conduct inspired by preliminary

Annual Meeting St. Mark's Church

The annual meeting of St. Mark's Church was held in St. Mark's Hall on Monday evening, Jan. 27th, inst. The meeting was presided over by the Rector, Rev. B. Fream. The reports of the Church's activities read by tho different secretaries showed a good year's work had been accomplish- ed ln every department.

A rather unique game of hockey

Monday night when the Bloodhound Sisters of Cape Traverse met the Carleton School Hockey Club in a. friendly game. There was a. large crowd in attendance and the fans were given plenty of entertainment as evidencedby the final score.

Outstanding on the girls’ team were Helen McWilliams, Georgie Mclrinis, and Pyrtle Crossman, while the stellar membe of the school team. were Wallace Muttart and John McDonald. Both goalies work- ed much harder than the score would indicate. Tivz-e were few spectacular solo rushes, the goals being scored by clever combination play. ’ At the end of the second period, the Sisters were well in the ‘lead, with a score in their favour of 7-2, but in the third and last period the school team. inspired by the superb coaching of their teacher, Elmer Roberts, took the offensive, and when the final bell rang, the score read: Cape Traverse Sisters, B; Car- leton School, 9. ‘Analyses of milk and cream sam- ples are made in the Laboratory of

the Department of Public Health, which is under the manageme it of Mrs. Campbell, Laboratory Techni- clan, who assists with all the tests and makes bacterial counts and ex- aminatlons.

Analysis of milk for butter fat, sediment. specific gravity, acidity 442; Bacterial count 184; Contag- ious abortion 35; Cream for butter fat 30; number of samples contain- ing sediment 10.

Number of quarts of pasteurized milk 2,055; number of quarts of raw milk 2.818; number of quarts of pasteurized cream 140; number of quarts of raw cream 90.

The above is a fair estimate of the quantity of milk and cream sold in the City daily. The milk and cream sold in the City contains on an average a. high percentage of butter fat and is delivered to the consumer in good condition.

Fifty inspections of pasteurized plants and ten inspections of ice cream plants were made during the year.

Not so much improvement was made in rooms and milk houses. A number of new milk houses were built with cooling tank. eic. Communication

In addition to the letter regard- iniz relief a letter was read from the Carpenters Union concerning the proposed wages to be paid by the contractor who is to begin work hem soon for the Metropol- itan Stores. The usual rate here is L’: cents per hour but the carpen- ters informed the Council that the superlnwndent of the firm which has the contract had told them that he was going to pay a much smaller wage.

Coun. MacDougall said that he understood no local firm had been asked to tender for the job. He did not see why, when the store is making its money here, the con- tract should not have been given to a local firm. He understood one construction organisation herehad been approached early in the fall in regard to the work, Coun. Mac- Dougall said, but they were given no plans or specifications and had been unable to make an esti- mate of the work. That was the last they heard of it until Parsons of Moncton had been awarded the contract. Apparently they got it for a low price, Coun. MacDougall lsid. and are going to take it out of the local men in a very low scale of wages.
