Laws Tewsts.—The annual interprovincial lawn teania tournament will be held on the Waeaderers grounds, Halifax, August 9th, 10 h aud ijth. The evente wiil be gentlemen and ladies’ singles, gentlemen and ladies doubles and mixed doubles. Four grass gourts will be in use, The clubs eee will probably be Fredericton, St. Joho, Char- lottetowa, Amherst, New Glasgow, Truro, Pictou, Garrison, South End and Wanderers. Each will likely have three or four represent- atives, ladies and gentlemen. A committee will arrange entertainments for visitors.

To Be Re-Srocxep.—The St. John Sup ssys : Shediac harbor is to be re-stocked with oysters, and two English experts, Mersre. Kemp, are at Shediac lovking about the place with a view of planting oysters there. These gentlemen, who have much experience in this business,* seemed perfectly satiefied with the place and the chances of success. The oysters wll be got at Boeteuche and Bedeque, P. E. I They will br piauted under the supervision of Inspector Chipman and work will be be- gun at once.

Disasrnovs.—A disastrous fire is reported from Northport, near Amberst. The large warehouse and shop of H. Chapman, situated neat Northport bridge, were totally destroyed by fire om Thursday, caused by sparka from the steam miil near by. The fire extended to the bridge, the draw part of which was also ae burned, rendering passenger traffic impossible. Mr. Chapman, who wee st the time of the fie loading tumber fot P. E. jaland, endeavored to take Lis schooner out « f the ames, bat owing té the beavy gale blowing at the time the schooner was driven ashore. It is, however, thought she can be floated again.

Some Carrite.—On Saturday last tle steamer M A. Starr brought some very fine cattle to the city fram Cape Traverse and Tryon. Messrs. Saunders & Camp- bell had an extra fine lot of nineteen, all in the best condition, which they will keep for the retail trade, These cattle were fed by Messrs. F. Holland, W. B. Howatt, A. Collett and F. Ferguson. Another lot came at the same time for Mr. Sellers, who will ship them to foreign markets. This lot is of extra good quality, and was fed by Messrs. Bell, Mut:art and Leard.

Acctpent.— Dr. McLeod, while on his way on Saturday night last to attend a patient at New Glasgow, and when near his destination was thrown from his wagon by the horse shying at something on the side of the road. The wheels of the wagon passed over the Doc- tor’s face which with the fall stunned him. He was found unconscious some time later by a messenger sent to meet him and was taken toa near-by house. Dr Honeywell was sent for and dreesed the wound We are pleased to kuow that except for a sligh* feeling of sorevess and the wound on his face the Doctor a all right «gain.

Carnotic Foresters.—At the recent meeting of the High Court of Catholic (x}- i Foresters ia Montreal last week, High Chief Ranger Cahill, of Chicago, declared in his annual address that the order had had a remarkable jevelopment both in the United States and in Canada, The order now comrprises 293 courts, with a member- ship of 22,652. Of these courts 152 are in [llinvis, 27 in Wisconsin, 93 in the Domin- jon of Canada, 8 in Indiana, 6 in Minne- sota, 2 in Iowa, 5 in Michigan, 4 in Ohio, 1 in North Dakota and 1 in Vermont.
