Mayor Wedge is at present a patient in the city Hospital in Charlottetown as a result of an accident which happened on sun- doy. January 10th. in which he suffered painful facial iridurieai by being thrown from a sleigh while exercising a. pony at the Summer- side Raceway. It is expected that he will be released from hospital the latter part of this week.

The present Water and Sewer- age Commission consists of Messrs Robert Dewar. chairman. Roland Sheen. and Leigh Stewart. Mr. Stewart has declined to offer his services. Mr. Edgar Cannon has been rumored as a possible candl- date to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr. Stewart, but Mr. Cannon has not yet made up his mind on the matter

The term of three of the coun- cillors will expire this year: W. E. Jenkins, Clarence Steele. and James Maobougall. It is under- stood that all three will re-nom- mate on January 26th, No one else, as yet, has indicated their intention to offer for nomination.

A plebiscite will be held in con- junction with the forthcoming cl- ection by which the citizens will indicate their desire in regard to having the Water Commission continue as at pres ent, or whether they would prefe; to have the duties of this com- mission as administered by the Town Council.

Assault courses iiiscontinucd As Army Punishment

OITAWA. (CPI -Army person- nel in detention barracks no long- er will be ordered to engage in different assault courses as a form of punishment.

The defence departsnerit said Monday that the practice has been discontinued as 9. result of the death last summer of Pte. Freder- iok Joseph Burke. 29, of Begins. at Petawawa military camp. 120 miles northwest of Ottawa.

The department was replying to a question tabled in the Commons for Stariley Knowles (CC1'l-Win- nlpeg North Centre).

A native of Ottawa, Pie. Burke died July 16, 1958, shortly after he collapsed while drillirg on the can-lp's obstacle or amault course. He was under seven days' detent- ion for being absent without leave.

A coroner's inquest, held at Pembroke. Ont., early in August blamed death on an illness ag- gravated by detention punishment.

A post-mortem disclosed that Burke died from "asphxis caused by bilateral pneumonia."

BELGRADE, (Reuters) A humble future as a private citizen looms for Yugoslav vice-president Milovsn Djilas, Communist leader who has fallen from favor after straying from the party line.

It was announced Monday that he has resigned as president of the Yugoslav parliament -- a post he was given only three weeks ago.

The central committee of the Yugoslav communist party Bun- day "excluded" him from holding office in the party, including a position on the 108-man executive committee.

He is expected to be removed from his post as one of the coun- try's four "vice-presidents when parliament reconvened Jan. 27.

But Djllas is not expected to be purged or arrested for his "her- esy." President Tim, at the meet- ing of the party's central commit- tee which expelled miles from his party posts. said the days have gone when the Yugoslav Continu- nlst party liquidated members who diverged from the party line.

The committee retained Djiln an ordiney part.y' member. But. angered by newspaper and mass- sine articles he wrote which at- tscked partly lenders, privileges and urged I more "democratic" party line. the gave him a "final warning.”

It was disclosed Monday that Djilas resigned his presidency of parliament several days before the central committee met.

Drifting Snow Blocks Many Roads Inljince

-Show plows were busy yes- terday in sub-zero temperatures. opening main highways through- out the county.

In many sections. however. a steady ground drift blocked the road again after the plow had passed.

Highway officials said last even-

ing thlt the Summerside-Borden road. and the Borderi-Bonshsw- Charlottetown road had been

opened during the day.

The road from Summerside to Kensington and from Hunter River to Charlottetown was re- ported open last evening, but in- formation available suggested that the section between Ken- sington and Hunter River was probably closed by ground drift.

West of Summcrslde the high- way was open to Day's' Corner, and ground drift from that point on was expected to cause trouble for motorists last evening.

This morning all plows will re- sume activity again in a day-long battle against the snow banks.-S.

No one was surprised. The mayoralty seat has been held by the Boivln family as long as many of the city's 30,000 residents can remember. The mayor's father-- the late P. E. Boivin-served as mayor for 17 consecutive years.
