—The first report of the American Clydesdale Association has been publish- ed. The executive committee, it would appear, have abundant reasons for con- gratulating the Association, and all in- terested in the Clydesdale horse, on the increased popularity of the breed. The number of Clydesdale horses imported during the past. year is larger than. for any corresponding period, and iveludes many of the best obtainable specimens of the breed io Scotland. The number of mares imported last year is without a precedent, and their superior quality and excellence of breeding are in keeping with the increased number. The prices for good Clydesdales continue to advance in America even more rapidly than in the past. The committee are of opinion that ‘‘the large foreign demand for heavy horses, at remunerative prices, is worthy of much consideration, and, with the increasing home demand, ensures a future trade for breeders of draught- horses which, for permanency aud hand- some profits, is not surpassed by any branch of stock-breeding or other legiti- mate business.”

The necessity of forcing debtors of the Bank to pay up was referred to, while the interest in the Bank settlement displayed by Judge Peters, and the energy of the liquidators, were generally acknowledged. The liquidators said they hoped soon to be able to pay another dividend of 10 cents in the dollar.

During the discussion, Robert Bruce Stewart, Esq., read from a letter he lately received from John Walter, Esq., pro- prietor of The Times newspaper, the fol- lowing extract, which, on-account of its pointed wisdom, we have reserved as a fitting conclusion for this rather summary report -—

‘J am afraid Lean do nothing to help yon in the matter of the Bank failure. It seems to bear a family likeness to the large class of Pank failares and swindles, with which we are so familiar in this country. Such catastro- phes wi always be lisble to recur so long as people are willing to keep large deposit ac- oounts for the Banks to gamble with.”
