It is reported that Captain Hill, forme - ly of the steamer Halifax, has been offered the command of the new steamship Prince Edward,buailt in Bagland for the Dominion Atlantic Railway Compaay. The Prince Kdward is handsomely titted throughout, and has accommedation for 316 first-class and 30 steerage passengers. She hasa speed of upwards of 1§ kaots, and 18 intended for the Yarmouth-Bostor service.

The customs port of Nelson shows the exports of ore from West Kootenay during the last fiscal year to have been valned at $4,841,459, over $3,200,090 having heen shipped in the last six months. Abort half of the total was from the Roseland mines, the balance being from the adjoin- ing mines of Nelson, Ainsworth, and Slocan. This record, highly satisfactory as it is in memory of what the region was twenty four or even tweive months ago, promises to be eclipsed during the current fiscal year, and though, from the circum- stances of development much of tbe pro- fit goes to another country, much will re- main, and when smelting and reducing works are established in Canada the pro- portion will increase. There has been some money foolishly lost in the British Columbia mining country, but there wil] be many times the amount legitimately mide. The cold facts of the trade returns show this.

Wemayr Hvert,—-This forenoon, after the arrival of the eastern- train, a Mrs. Me- Millan, from St. Peter’s, got into the Re- vere Hotel carriage to be driven to that well-kpvown hosteiry. Just afier starting the horse became unmanageable for a few minutes, and Mrs. McMillan becoming alarmed jumped from the carriage, falling and stunning herself. She was picked up and carried into the residence of Judge Reddin, where Dr. Kelly was called in and everything possible was done for her. At the time of writing Mrs. McMillan was re- ported “al! right,” and was to proceed to ibe Revere later on.
