faire savoir à notre estimable con- frère de Weymouth qu'il s’égare un peu en venant nous apostropher sans provocation aucune de notre part. Cher confrère, ne vous fâchez pas parce que /’/mpartiul a opposé M. Perry en 1896. Il y a longtemps
que tous ceux qui ne se croient pas
plus savants que les évêques et les
_ prêtres ont réconnu que /'/mpartial avait raison d'opposer M. Perry en 1896. Il y a longtemps aussi qu’on sait quel parti a pris l’Evangéline sur la grande question qui absor- baït tous les esprits dans ce temps- là. M. Perry n’est plus, et nous croyons qu'il est très peu délicat pour qui que ce soit de re- muer ses cendres pour en faire sur- gir une petite chicane. Nous est avis que le plus rarement notre confrère de là-bas ramènera la question de 96 sur le tapis mieux il s’en trouvera. Quant à feu le séna- teur Arsenault, M. Gallant et notre M. Blanchard, l'éloignement du lieu de la scène où se trouve l’E- vangéline, lui fait dire, à ce sujet, des choses qui sont pitoyablement fausses.
Que vont-ils faire ?
Nous pourrions bien avoir les élections fédérales à l'automne. Le gouvernement paraît en ce moment indécis sur ce qu’il y a de mieux à faire pour eux. Leur manière d'administrer la chose-publique est devenue si équivoque qu'ils sont à se creuser le cerveau, chacun à sa manière, afin d'aviser à quelque moyen de sortir du mauvais pas où ils se trouvent. Les uns opinent ! pour des élections immédiates, sa- chant bien qu'au train que vont les choses, le moindre délai les enfon-
cera à jamais. D’autres, convaincus |
qu'ils ne seront jamais élus davan- tage tiennent bon, protestent et jet- tent les hauts cris, demandant de ! garder les places aussi longtemps | que possible. Voilà où en est ren- due l'administration régnante, D'un moment à l'autre, on court risque de se trouver en face d’une tourmente électorale. Il est donc bon de se tenir prêt à toute éven- tualité.

Vu les circon- stances adverses sous lesquelles | nous avons eu à lutter dans cette en- treprise, nous avons conscience que notre Numéro Illustré n'est pas mar- qué au coin de la perfection; mais il nous fait plaisir de constater que nous avons été agréable à nos a- mis et que nous leur avons causé une heureuse surprise en leur four- nissant un chapitre permanent de l'histoire acadienne de l'Ile du Prince Edouard. Tel a été l'objet que nous avons eu principalement en vue en prenant l'initiative dans

I1 nous sera impossible de faire paraître une seconde édition de notre numéro centenaire, plusieurs nous en ont suggéré l’i- dée. Ceux qui en ont obtenu un ex- emplaire feront bien de le conserver comme un précieux souvenir. Les quelques exemplaires qui nous res- tent encore seront expédiés aux premiers qui les demanderont, au prix ordinaire de 50 cents, en plus, 2 cents pour postage.

On the contrary they are engravings of the very best class, and must have cost our confrère a large a- mount of money. The whole num- ber is worthy of the great occasion which it honors, and we congratu- late our esteemed friends Buote on the creditable manner in which they have performed their | parts. They certainly deserve well, not only of their compatriots, but their countrymen in general.
