One day last week while Mr. Henry Oulton, of Baie Verte Roads, was in the woods logging his attention was attracted by the loud and incessant barking of his dog. On going to where the dog was, he found a bear's den un- der an eld windfall, Not having any firearms, he immediately sent for Mr Arthur Wood, who goon arrived armed with a double barrelled rifle, which he made good use of by firing and putting the contents of both barrels into the heed of what turned out to bea large she bear, killing her instantly. On dragging the body out, three young bruins about three days old were found in the den.

Horrible Disaster. Livekpoot, Feb. 16.

A portion of the Fisheries Exhibition building collapsed to-day, while several score of workmen were engaged upon it. Most of them were recovered from the wreck, eighteen with broken legs or arms. It is known that several men kilied by the accident remain buried in the debris.

The prize fight, which had been arranged to teke place to-day, near Paris, between Greenficld and Smith, for the English heavy weight championship and £2000 stakes, has been declared a draw. The fight, however, when stopped was very much in favor of Smith.

Henry vs. Liird-—The evidence in this case being all before the jury, Mr. Davies, Q. C., yesterday afternoon addressed the jury on behalf of of the defendant for over two hours.

This morning, Mr. Hodgson, Q. C., for the plaintiff, began his address to the jury, and conclnded at three o'clock this after- noon, The Chief Justice then adjourned the Court until to-morrow, when he will deliver his charge.

At his residence, Wellington, Lot 16, on Feb. 5th, after one year's illness of stomach complaint, James Elexander, Eeq., in the 49th yeur of his age, leaving a wife and eight children to mourn the loss of a kind aad affeo tionate husband and father.
