Hockey at Crapaud.

Str,—As a participant in the game played in Victoria Rink on March Srd, to which the Crescents of Crapaud won from the Victorias of Charlottetawa by a score of 4 to 2, I was slizbtly -urprised to see by a local iv Friday's Examiner that the Victorias were defeated by ascore of 4 to 3. The error would not perhaps be of such consequence as to provoke a demand for ite correction, were this the first in- stance in which the result of the game referred to bas been incurric ly stated by the press; and it is with the expres# pur- pose of making it the last that | presume co write this letter. Besides containing some minor errors in regard to the detaiis of the play such asthe time and manner in which certain goals were scored, the Guardian’s report in the issue of March d4ib, aj peared under a heading original in both style and matter,—'e the eflec: game resulted in a draw and that the Csescents won only by a time allowance. This defective report was at- tributed to lack of information as it was known that no represestative of the Guardian witnessed the game; and with the view of obtaining a correction in a later issue a proper account was tele— phoned the city reporter etating explicitly that the match had been won by the Crescents within the usus! ove hour’s pley. Yet, in the Weekly and Semi-Weekly Guardian the public were given the same fictitious account under the eame d:lusive heading. We think,that the Guardian, by persisting to print ite own imperfect version of the game despite the protests of eye- witnesses, has carried its “indepen~ dent” principles to a pitch which is scarcely compatible with its professed claim to the practice of that “temperance” which should exist in all things.

CRESCEXT. ‘Hampton, P. E. 1., March 13th, 1899 Obituary.

It is our sad duty to chroncile the death of Allan McDonald, second son of the late Angus McDonald, of Rock Barra, Lot 46, P. E. Island, who died at San Francisco Calfornia, on February 17th, 1899, after an illness of three mopnthe, borne with patience and resignation to the Divine Wiil, in the 52ond year of his age.

The deceased leftthis country about fifteen years ago for Maniioba, where he remained fora short time when be went to Oakland, Calfornia, and thereu carried On the sbip-building until afew months previons to hisdeath. He was honest and upright in his dealings, sober, and gener- ous in disposition, and well liked by al] who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.

He leaves a sorrowing widow and one sister in Oalfornia, two sisters and one brother in Victoria, B. C., and one sister in this province, Mrs, Barnaby Mclsaac, Bayfield. He also wasa brother of the late Daniel McDonald, Rock Barra, who

died last November, besides a large circle of friends and relations to mourn their irrepariable loss. The tuueral was

largely attended; and with #ll honore he was laid to rest tar from his native home (Island papers please copy.)
