...:m....L..:.m... a business session of the 34.0.- M.8. The afternoon will be de- voted in a meeting of the Island churches when a large group from all parts of the province is expect- ed to attend.

The worship urvice tonight will be held by Mr. R.E. Shaw with the evening's address being deliv- ered by Mr. O. W. Mccully, 'roroii- to. There will also be a. business session of the 'M.O.M.S. and ii discussion of the financial appeal.

Tomorrow morning the final day of the convention will start with prayer service conducted by Mr. W. Weale followed at 11 a.m. by worship service and communion hi charge of Rev. M.D. Dunbar. pas- tor of Central Christian Church. Thesermon will be delivered by Mr. Spencer P. Austin. In the af- ternoon thero will be a worship service by the Y.P. S. with each gioup from the three provinces giving a. five-minute talk each followed by an address by Miss Margaret Stainton. There will also be a business session before ad- Journment.

The evening will be devoted to a worship service by Rev. Dunbar with the sermon being preached by Mr. Austin. The Mizpah Serv- ice and Benediction will bring the ronventlon to a close.

Arrives in Yacht For Old Nome Week

A trim motor yacht. the 'Dim- bula'. slipped into the Charlotte- town llabcur this week as her owner and his guests arrived early for old Home Week. Owned by a well known former Maritime horseman the Dimbula has had a leisurely two-weeks voyage from Halifax. touching on several Marl- timc ports during the Journey.

Owner of the yacht is Mr. R. 5. (Rune) Allen who is known to practically every horseman on the Island. Mr. Allen has three guests with him for this Provinces fam- ous fair week.

The sleek 44-foot long motor- driven yacht has sleeping accomo- datlons for four in addition to the small crew. she is captained by Capt. D. Lowe with Mr. Percy Stevens as the engineer and is registered in Halifax where her owner resides.

In past years Mr. Allen has raced horses and has made a host of friends here who are welcoming him back to the Island once more.

HAMILTON, Aug. 10 - (CF) -r Police tonight sought the alleged contact man between gamblers and Jockeys involved in the "fixing" of races at Fort Erie and other On- tario tracks.

"We are convinced that Perron was the go-between between the two 'Mr. Fix-Its' and the jockeys. He was the contact rrisn used by the higher-ups to arrange betting coups." '

A commissio announcement said that Perron now is believed to be in Pawtucket and that the Federal Bureau of investigation and United States immigration authorities are co-operating with Canadian authorities in the search.

Behind some of the finest pacers and trotters the is- land has seen. he has teamed his way to victory or defeat. never unseemly elated by a win or do. pressed in defeat. a sportsman in the beat tradition.

There can be no denying that the absence of the Colonel will be noted and regretted by thousands of close friends and race follow- ers. But there is a bright side- the Colonel is expected to end his eniforced rest in September. and should be at track-side when

The Colonel has many friends here on the Island and in many parts of Canada and the U. S. A.. who will regret his temporary lay-up. but his non-appearance at the Exhibition will be most felt by the surviving members of the battery he took overseas in World War 1.

Perhaps it has been one of his greatest accomplishments, that he took an artillery unit to France and returned with his men. re- spected as a courageous soldier, held in affection as their friend. admired for his fair-mlndedness and generosity. No one konws the Colonel better than the men who served with him, and it is significant that their loyalty to

him never weakens down the years. His return to his accustomed

place in the business and sporting life in the Province will be wide- ly welcomed. C I

It is deplorable but true that when work re uiring, skilled tradesmen is available in Char- lottetown, it is not always easy to recruit men with the proper training. Maritime Central Air- ways, one of the Island's mmt forward-looking business establish- ments. may have some trouble rounding up men to staff its air- craft repairing shops. Here and there on the Island there may be ex-service men who can fill the bill, and if so M.C.A.'s Is-bor prob- lems will be simplified. Hitherto the type of men needed has not been procurable in any numbers. Trained machinists are also in short uspply. and the only class of 'help usually abundant is com- mon labor. If some of the latter. many of whom have enough edu- cation to take a skilled trade, would do so. there would be no complaints that outsiders were taking jobs from native Island- GT5.

For some years now every gar- age in Charlottetown has been on the lookout for cavpable mechan- ics. and offering good wages. Most of them are still looking. and holding on to the trained men they already have on their payrolls. .

Now that Georgetown will be- come more accessible in the aut- umn and winter months via the fine permanent roadway, shipping should increase sharply. The pro- ductive farming country within hauling distance of the town could make it a much busier com- munity. perhaps as lively as in the old days when it was the principal winter port for the Pro- vln'ce.

Air Cadets To A Display Precision Drill Nexilleeli

Island people attending the old Home week races on Tuesday of next week will have an added thrill in that they will witness a performance in precision drill by the International Drill Team of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. The team, this year. is composed of cadets from the four Atlantic Provinces and they will compete at the Canadian National Exhibi- tion in late August with teams from the United States Civil Air Patrol and the Air Training Corps of Great Britain. Sgt. Kenneth Perry. son of Mr. and rs. my Perry, cedar street. Summerslde. is the only Island boy chosen for the team.

Three years ago Major General Lucius Beau of the United States Air Force presented an award now lvnown as the Beau Trophy, for an- nual drll'l competition between the Canadian Air Cadets and the Cadets of the Civil Air Patrol. The trophy has been won for the past three' years by the team represent- ing the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. The honor of defending the trophy this year has been given to a team chosen from air cadets of New- foundland. Prince Edward Island. New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

On July 16th seventy air cadets assembled at RCA!-' Station. Greenwood for a five week period of intensive drill instruction and this number has been cut to 4.5 for the international competition. Persons who have seen them rec- ently performing at Greenwood say that they equal the perform- ance of some of the guards regi- ments who are noted for the pre- cision whichthey carry out tlteli) movements.

The team will fly to Charlotte- town on Tuesday by RCAP Air- craft which will later return them to Greenwood.-S.

Increased taxes and stricter buy- ing regulations had hit the auto- mobile industry a severe blow in Canada, Mr. Claskin said. Steps had been taken and the compan- ies would continue to make rep- resentation tc the government to have the restrictions eased. but as yet they had not been successful.
