—_>—_—_—. Tus Times, of Manitowoc, Wis., records the following strange incident: The Rev. Dr Bray, rector of St. James’ church, had a very strange thing occur to him on Monday night, the 4th inst. About lin the morning he was im a semi-conscious state, when he heard a voice saying: ‘‘R. D. Hare is dead.’ On the following Wednesday he received a letter frem Canada, a part of which reads thue: ‘‘I suppose the sad news of the death of R D. Hare has net reached you. S aeidiell A Frenn’s York.—One of the most cow- ardly and vicious acts which has ever disgraced this town, says the Liverpool Times, was perpetrated on Sunday evesing last. During the delivery of a temperance sermon in the Methodist church, which was filled to its utmozt seating eapacity, some villain set fire to a barre! saturated with oil. The alarm of fire was immeliately sounded from the engine house, which created no little consternation and alarm among tho audience, many of whom hastened to quit the building. Fortunately, no panic occurred, and conse- quently no one was injured. A suitable reward should be offered by the authorities and the rascal detected and puuished. Rindge Tue Duke of Abercorn, whose death is announced, was 74 yearsold. He was a Hamilton by birth, an Oxford by educa- tion, and a Conservative by iustinct. His firat vote in the House of Lords was against the Reform Bill. In 1866 he was made Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and resigned in 1868. In 1874 he was ap- pointed to the same position, and held it until the Liberals came in in 1876. He married in 1832 Lady Louisa Jane Rassell, daughter of the Duke of Bedford. He was Grand Master of the Freemasons of Ireland, Lord Lieutenant of Donegal, and held various other positions of honor in the United Kingdom. Lady Linsdowne, wife of the Governor-General, is his daughter.

Turre was placed in the cemetery at Rollo Bay, on Monday last, a memorial monument to the late Hon, Lawrence Kickham. It was erected by Mrs. Kick- ham, and built by our talented sculptor, E. G. Hunter, Ezq., of Charlottetown. It is an expensive monument, fourteen feet high, aud is composed of six pieces, the lower base of freestone. There is a moulded marble base upon which rests a paneled pedestal, one of the panels bears the in- scription. Above this is a cap with raised panels followed by the spire, which is surmounted with across having the usual inscription “‘I. H. 8.” which completes the structure. It reflects the highest oredit on the architect, and is truly magnificent iooking in a country churchyard.—Sovris WEsT.

Tux enterprising firm of Norton Brothers intend to exhibit at the Indian and Col- onial Exhibition, London, a magnificent tep buggy, manufactured by Mr. w. McKie, of this city. It is pronounced to be, by all who saw it, an excellent piece of workmanship, Accompanying the buggy will be @ gorgeous placard, executed by Mr. John Coombs, of this city. The pla- card is of elegant design, and is a worthy specimen of the art preservative of arts. |t reads au follows : ‘*This buggy is all hand- made, by William McKie, manufacturer of ail kinds of carriages and sleighs, Char- lottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.” Beneath this inscription are two shields, hearing short paragraphs, giving briefly the history ad resousces of Prince Edward Island. in the centre of the placard, be- tween the shields, is a photograph of Norton Bros.’ establishment, and below is the inseription ; ‘‘ Exbibited by Norton Bros., Hardwaye Merchants, Charlotte- town, P. EB. L.—A. McNeill, Agent for P, E. I. exhibit of Indien and Colonial Exhi- bition.” The buggy will go to London by next trip of the 8. 8. Clifton.

Lorine L. Lorp, 16 year old son of Chas A. Lord, of Pride’s Bridge, in Westbrook, Me , committed a most peculiar suicide on Friday afternoon. It appears that the boy had trouble at school. During the after- noon, it a@ boyish squabble, one of the pupils was pushed through a window. The teacher blamed young Lord, and told hin he must pay for the glass. The boy said he was not to blame. Young Lord went directly home and took his gun into the yard to clean it, loaded it and fired it into the air, then put in a tremendous charge of powder and a larve quantity of shot, took the gun into tie shed chamber and lashed it securely into » saw-horse, then tied a string to tie trigger, and the ramrod to the string, knelt down and put his ear close to the muzzle and exploded the charge by means of the ramrod. The charge made a clean hole through his head an inch in diameter and lodged in a post across the road,

OTICE is hereby given that after Ist J NOVEMBER, for remainder of season, the steamers of above Company will discon- tinue running on SATURDAY EVENING, from Summerside to Charlottetown. Consequently, there will be no freight or passengers carried by them from Charlotte- town to Point du Chene, or vice versa; or from Summerside to Charlottetown, or vice versa, but only between Summerside and Point du Chene, This change is made to prevent liability of detention in Charlottetown by fog, storms, or otherwise.
