—On the night of Thursday last a' child about live months old was left, at the door of a barn house in west Devon. It. appears that. a wo‘man from that section, whose husband has been in the United States for the past two years and had provided a home for his family, wrote his wife to come to him and bring the family. The woman, thinking that three chil- dren would he as many as she could conveniently travel with, decided to leave one at the home. On Friday morning the resident sent a message to Policeman Phillips. Summerside, asking him to detain the mother of the child, but as there were no legal papers, he could not interfere. The mother departed by the Empress on the same morning. In the mean- Ulme the abandoned infant is being well cared for.
