The next weekend we were Off tO'Halifax for a real sports marathon imagine it two basketball games Friday night, two on Saturday afte- rnoon , two hockey games on Saturday night & one Sunday afternoon! We have to admit ithat S.M.U. overpowered us in Basketball pulling away midWay in the first half & then coasting in for a win. ’We thought Lee Thomas unbel— ievable as hereontrolled the

accuracy was fantaStic as the ball seemed to want to go in. We stayed with them for the first few minutes but when Art.Laffin & Jamie Ballem ran into foulytrouble the Huskies moved away. Our Art Laffin was one of the outstanding players on the court/& led the Panthers with 28. Next afternoon I we lost the conolation round game to Mount A. by a good margin. Who the Hell ever

“S.M.U. & Acadia (S.M.U. all
the way) it was announced that our Gary Heald, in his rookie year as U.P.E.I. coa-J ch had been as "Coach of the
Year" for the Atlantic Regi- on. We all rated him as
such before the award & we think he has done a super job in guiding Panther fort— unes and we agree,iwith a Halifax writer, that his charges are just a year and a Big man away from being
really competetive with any team in our area.
We also enjoyed the Dal S.M.U. game in which S.M.U. romped away with a 9-4 win & we were amazed at the 7-4 (we think) win by Acadia over U. de Moncton (Rumor has it that Moncton fans- had 1400 reservations for Sunday's final game in the Forum so we cannot have been the only ones surprised) Paiemont, Lambert Acadia goalkeeper were at the top of their game. We felt Monc— ton panickedwhen Acadia got a 2-1 lead & three or four of the Acadia goals were scored on_breakaways. Acadia vs. S.M.U. on Sunday
‘was no contest & we left for
home at the end of the second period. As you probably know, in the Eastern finals
’S.M.U. and Toronto split the
first two games & S.M.U. lost the final 6-3 after leading 3-1 with only five minutes to go. Now they know how U.P.E.I. fans felt several times this year! Having absorbed a reason— able amount of kidding about being a Panther fan we rema- rked to all & sundry as we left the Halifax pressbox in the S.M.U./Acadia game "See you follows at the playoffs next year in Charlottetown" how about it Jack We'd like to be dishing it out in March 76!
