Is it not therefore high time that an effort were made to form in a Joint Stock Com pany for the erection of a Town Hall? Cricket.

THouGH a heavy rain fell early yesterday morning, towards ten o'clock it cleared up, and there seemed every prospect of a good interesting game. The ground, which had previously been well rolled and pounded, was in excellent condition for cricket—in fact everything was favorable to a good day’s sport. At eleven o'clock wickets were pitched, and Captain Keuny of the

Wenderers having won the toss, sent the home men to the bat. The game com- menced by J. A. Longworth and W. A

Weeks taking the first stand at the wickets against the bowling of Kaizer and Faller. Before long, however, Longworth was obliged to retire, being caught out at point

by Salter. He was followed by 7; Long- worth, but soon afterwards Weeks, who was playing a steady bat, was given out lbw. T. A. LePage took his place, and Longworth and he, did some careful play- ing. But now the clouds began again to

gather, and the rain to pour in torrents. Happily. however, it lasted but a shert time, and play, which had been stopped, was resumed, only to stop again as a fresh shower followed. From this out the weather remained most unsatisfactory and disagreeable, the sun showing out bright one moment, while a minature deluge was repeated in the next. Asa consequence, good playing was out of the question, the bad light and the dark line of trees behind the border, making it almost impossible to see the bail. First Longworth, then Le- Page and R. T. Weeks were consigned to the ranks of onlookers with a score of 5 on! for l4 rune, L. Yeo and T, Haythorae now held the wickets for the remainder of the day. Both played well for they had aplendid bowling to contend with. Faller

Wedding Beils.

A large and interested congregation as- sembled in the Church of the Ascension, Apohaqui, on the afternoon of July 19th, to witness the nuptial of A. E. Long, Esq... M. D., of Tyne Valley, P. E. Island, and Miss Sarah M. Sharp, one of Studholm’s fairest daughters. The ceremony was per- formed by the Rev. Canon Medley, with the beautiful and impressive service of the Episcopal Church. Previous to the entry of the bride into the Church, the groom, accompanied by Mr. Campbell as best man, approached the chancel. The bride entered the church on the arm of her brother and was given away by her uncle, Isaac Sharp. She was accompanied by her cousin, Miss Augusta Sharp, who officiated as bridesmaid. The bride, who was a general favorite, was followed to the railway station by a large number of friends and relatives, all eager to wish her a happy voyage through life. Just as the hapyy pair stepped aboard the

train, they were literally covered with a shower of rice, which was thrown over them. A large Union Jack was flying in honor of the occasion. Dr. and Mrs. Long went to the Celestial City for their honeymoon, previous to

their return to Tyne Valley, where the doctor has a large and lucrative practice.

of thirty miles an hour. The engineer, named Warner, suddenly discovered a very little child standing close to the rails and apparently so paralyzed with fear that it could not move. The heavy train had run so near the little one when the discovery was made that the train could not possibiy be stopped.

The engineer, as he whistled for the brakes, called the attention of King to the child. The brave fireman lost no time in eaching the front of the engine, w'.cre he grasped the rail firmly for support, and, stepping down upon the cowcatcher, threw one foot out as far as possible. Thus as the

| train rushed down upon the child, he was

able, by a dexterous sweep of his foot, to thrust it to one side of the ditch, and ont of the way of the cowcatcher and wheels. The noble deed was accomplished in Much less time than it takes to relate the incident.
