Ml0THEltS' CLASSES STARTED -A series of prenatal classes for mothers-to-be was started this week by the Public Health Nurses of the Department oi Health and Welfare. After introductions were made, Miss Mona Wilson. Director of Public Health Nursing. gave a brief outline of the subjects to be discussed in the six classes in the series. The importance oi the mother's diet in relation to the healthy development of the child was stressed by Miss Roland, Director of Nutrition. This was followed by a simple and interest- ing explanatlon by Miss Ida Mac- Ksy oi the Mount Stewart area, oi how the baby srows, ending with a short film. More about nutrition during pregnancy will be the topic of the next discussion-

Theology has always tended, from the earliest days of creed making. to concent ate upon the doctrine of the Trinity as the basis of all Christian truth. Re- ligious thinkers have frequently been occupied with the questions which the doctrine raises; perhaps rigor more so than at the present v e.

This insistence on the primacy of the doctrine of the Trinity may appear on the surface as a demand for the unquestioning acceptance oi abstract dogmas whose rele- vance to the daily life of man is not immediately obvious. But such a view is due to the failure to comprehend what the doctrine really implies, and why it should be considered to be of such para- mount importance. .

If the doctrine of the threefold nature of God is thought of in terms of personal experience as well as of theological formulation, the conte ' tion of its meaning and of its relevance to human need will both enrich and widen

the Christian's thought of God, and enable him to enter more ful- ly into the experience which it both implies and guarantees.

The Christian thinks of God not only as Creator - the deist could to express his belief - but as one who has fully revealed himself in Christ, and who is ever present and operative in all life through his Holy Spirit.

God is the Lord of Creation; but he is also the Father who loves with an everlasting love the beings he has created. and who, as the ultimate expression of that love, has himself entered, in the person of Christ, and for human redemp- tion, into the midst of the histori- cal procees: and who always, to- day as ever, by his spirit enables men to respond to him and to strive to walk worthy of their call- ing as his children.

This basic doctrine, with all its implications, is needed in our time, when so many creeds, whether political, social, or religious, are strenuously competing for man's allegiance.

The Babel community of Char- lottetown celebrated the Feast of New-Ruz by gathering with their friends on March 20 at the home of Mr. Robert Donnelly for a special supper and social evening. This feast is held annually to cel- ebrate the New Year of the Baha'i calendar.

Mrs. Doris Richardson; of Mono- ton, who was the guest speaker, pointed out that the date of Naw- Ruz coincides with the vernal equinox and the beginning of s new year in the cycle of seasons, and went on to say that, as the coming of the warm winds and showers of spring bring a new burst of physical energy to the earth, so the coming of a new pro- phet brings a new spiritual energy to the hearts of men.

Baha'u'llah, the prophet of the Baha'i World Faith. came with a message of unity to a war-torn world, said Mrs. Richardson. He taught that the spfltual regenera- tion of the individual must result in the spiritual regeneration of society. As Moses brought the laws which led to an organized tribal society and Christ brought the love that leads a happy per- sonal rclationshlp, so Baha'u'llah brings the teachings and the blue- print for a world civilization.

The speaker was introduced by Miss Ellen simms, member of the local Baha'i community.

Whether in individuals or in

governments, that detectable at- titude known ss an'tl-Christianity. not a problem distinct from the at- titude known as anti-Christianity. Anti-Christianlly and anti-Semitlsm sooner or later give hate-filled wit- hess to each other. one need not go so far as Europe or Asia for daily proof of this sad calamity within the human race. Yet Europe and Asia provide us with monstrous examples and with appalling statis- tics which some use, in a compara- tive way, to acquit themselves here at home, classifying their attitude as trivial, I am writing about these evil attitudes wherever they exist and in however few instances they occur. for they are intrinsically evil. One instance is one too many. Jews and Christians in our age are suffering almost universal, per- secution, separation, enslavemcnt. shameful indignities and death. Yet in the emotional heart of their suffering it might sometimes happen that one would tend, not to depreciate, but to neglect, even to ignore, the sufferings of the other.

Basically there is no difference between the vicious injustice of the persecutions by a Hitler and those by e. Stalin. Sooner or later as recent months testify. the ob- jects of persecution become not Just Jews, not just Christians, but all Christians and all Jews. What is savage injustice under one dic- tator cannct be condoned when it occurs under another dictator. Nor can what is decried in the actions of dictators be accepted in the ac- tions of individuals or groups shel- tered within democracies.
