Walsh, 78, died after more than a year’s illness in south Florida retirement during which he re- tained keen interest in modern- day annals of the game he played in the early 1900s.

The Plains, Pa., native won a modest six games and lost four in 1904, his first year in the major leagues and Chicago White Sox uniform.
