become my favourite actor under the age of 35. The scenery is beautiful, as the film follows Tom around many of Italy’s cities. Anthony Minghella’s first film since The English Patient is a well-executed thriller, worthy of Hichcock, as well asa first-rate period piece.

Being John Malkovich (8) Directed by Spike Jonze

A down on his luck puppeteer (John Cusack) gets ajobasa file clerk and discovers a hidden door in his office. The door allows a person to enter into actor John Malkovich’s brain for fifteen minutes, after which one is spit out next to the

New Jersey turnpike. He capitalizes on the portal witha woman he is very attracted to (Catherine Keener), but the woman is attracted to his frumpy wife (Cameron Diaz). Malkovich, who usually plays more dramatic roles, proves he can do comedy, playing the most difficult role in the film. Every moment of the film is unpredictable and against the conventions of film. Spike Jonze’s feature film directorial debut is by far the year’s most original and daring film.

Last chance to make a scene at the National Theatre School of Canada!

There is little more than a month left for aspiring actors, playwrights, designers and technicians to get their applications in to Canada’s best- known theatre school for the 2000-2001 school year. The application deadline in February 15, 2000. Since its founding in 1960, more than 1,300 students have

graduated from the NTSC. Many alumni including such well known names as Ann- Marie MacDonald, Luba Goy, R.H. Thomson, Brenda Devine, Peggy Mahon, and Henry Czerny have helped set Canadian standards in theatre, television, and film. Access 2000 Campaign Committee

Are you concerned about the rising cost of your education? Over the past decade, average tuition fees have increased by 89% at UPEI and average student debt loads have increased from $8,000 to $25,000 nationwide! Access 2000 is a national campaign organized by the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS). This campaign is calling for restoration of post- secondary education funding, accessinility standards, the implementation ofa national system of grants, and action to reduce tuition fees. (You may have seen posters up around campus.) As post-secondary education is becoming a basic requirement in today’s society, it is important to fight these continuous tuition increases to keep education accessible for everyone.
