—Pine Grosbeck, Nov. 1/77 3 males, 2 females. Feeding on ground in old white spruce, maple woodlot. (Observers Cqm. Prince and Dave Smith) . . —Rough-legged Hawk, Dec. 20 - 28/77. Seen on 5 occasions, 3 times in flight, 2 on ground, in large field.

—Belted Kingfisher, Jan. 3/78, perched on alder overhanging river.

-Canada Geese, Jan. 25/78, 2 individuals in flight over Highway 1A near North Bedeque.

-Northern Three—toed Woodpecker, Jan. 26/78, bird with yellow on head and "laddered back", diggings l - 2 inches in length and width 3 inches deep, tree diggings in a line on bottom part of trunk.

Who Has Heard a WhipePoor—Will?

Approximately 14 years ago, a male Whip-poor-will visited the farm of Mr. E. Martin in Stanhope. Every evening throughout the summer, this bird was heard singing in a mixed coniferous and deciduous woods near the house. It did not return in subsequent years. A r~i

Mrs. Elizabeth Cairns remembers hearing Whip-poor—will's sing regularly during the 1920's ianest Covehead. She does not know if they were numerous but there was certainly more than one. Mr. George Cairns remembers hearing a Whip—poor—will sing occasionally during the 1920's in Stanchel, but not every year.

Although the Whip—poor—will is not included on our Provincial field check-list of birds, it appears to be a rare and irregular ‘ visitor to Prince Edward Island. If you remember hearing or seeing a Whip-poor-will, please let us know the date and location so that we can add this bird to the provincial checklist of birds 1 and a351gn it a status for Prince Edward Island.
