Sir,—I am not one to raise sectional feeliog between town and country. Both have their fuoctions and muet mutually assist each other in the partnership. But I protest against Charlowtetown being taxed by the Local Government for money to be spent in maintaining public works in the country. We have to-build our own roads, bridyes and public works, and main-~ tain our own city institutions at a cost of about $50,000 a year. The great bulk of our preportion of the Domimion subsidy, $13,000, is expended in the country, In addition tothis $6,000 to $8,000 is collect- ed in the city for income and other local governmeut taxes, and all spent ip = main- taining roads, bridges and public works in the country;.and now abil) is before the House to further tax the city—the liquor tex—also to be spent in the country! Where is itgoing toend? Must Charlotte- town ultimately assume the whole expense ofall provincial public worke We appear to be drifting im that direction. If we bave no city repreeentives in the House, surely we have a City Council who will make some protest. One city father ia reported to have eaid that the city wi!l not take the Judas’ thirty pieces of silver. But they sbould go further. They should insist on the city getting its fair proportion of pro- vincial 1evenue ur else throw up the cor- poration and let the Goverament run all.
