CARS IN COLLISION -—An I5- land truck and a Nova Scotla car were in collision at the intersection of Kent and Great George Streets yesterday afternoon. The truck lives making a left turn onto Kent St. while the Nova Scotia car was proceeding north on Great George when the uccideni occurred. The Nova Scotia car had its grill push- ed back against the radiator and the iteering gear bent.

Fine tributes Paid to Former . P. E. I. Physician

“Thirty-two years ago, a young Scotchman, with apple red cheeks. coal black hair and a determined set to his chin, strayed into this valley from far away Prince Ed~ ward Island, washed by the waters of the gulf of St. Lawrence. Bis trim appearance, the unmistakeable scent of medicine and the business- like small satchel. betrayed his pro- fcssion.

Sturdy sagebrush that shaded a mun on a horse covered this area, interrupted here an there by rect-| angles of new ground turned up, dotted with the homes of the pioneers. The breath of lifs was be- ing breathed into the new little’ town of Aberdeen. A canal whose irezn made banks wound a long and sinuous course, trickled life- giving waters on rich soil, ripe (or the seeding. On such s stage and such a scene did Dr. Mackinnon walk into the hearts and lives of s people.

“Those early wirlers were snowy and cold, the springs long and chill, with floods of water rushing 1n from the desert. The sun shone bright and hot on the young med- lco in the dusty buggy; perhaps he drowsed a bit, for 1e nights were mere critnaps between calls, what with the pioneers having babies, an epidemic of typhoid raging and the general run of accidents that trail in the wake of a new country.

“But he had dedicated his life to the Saving of other lives and what mattered i! lie did sacrifice his own health? Besides, a bride had come all the way from the little Island of Prince Edward to make his home happier" with the solid comforts that his strenuous life demanded. Soon he was known far up and down the valley for his expertness in diagnosis, his studious ways, his sincerity of speaking and a dogged persistence in combat with disease. He easily became our leading citi- zen, for his faith in the country was only matched by the love of the community for their faithful w‘se counsellor in times oi’ need. Many are the stories told of lwes- saved, of tides turned, of battles won by this country doctor. .

Though these days find him not actively practicing his profession, yet he is still serving in h‘; highest capacity as a consultant to his able young assistant, Dr. Harms. One thing more is demanded of hlm by this community. When he gains his strength sufficiently. we rope he will take time and inclination to write his memoirs. Men of his ex- perience have almost disappeared. And though 1r need not be written to be remembered in our times, it. will prove a volume of interest and inspiration to the generations to | come. rm what you have done and , your useful years ahead, Dr. Mu:- j kinnon, we salute you!
