lie of this city, and the Island generally, that previous to Stock-taking, we have re- solved to clear out as much of our Winter Stock as possible. We are aware that at this season it is hard to get people to buy even at reduced prices; but in the face of this difficulty we have made up our mind to adopt full measures, and sell our Wool Goods and Dress Goods at a sacrifice.

Our Goods have been very cheap all winter, as the run of trade we have had fully testifies. Our store has become the resort ‘of those Ladies who know how tomake a penny go a long way, and who know a cheap article when they see it; and when we say we are going to reduce the prices of our Dress Goods and Trimmings, we know we shall be believed. We are particul- arly anxious to clear out our present Stock, in order to intro- duce as much of the newest style of Dress Material as possible, and at the very lowest prices. We shal! make special prices on Black Cashmeres, Black Meri- nos, Black Cords and Lustres, Lustrines and Brilliantines.

cessfully conducting this enterprize. But we lack men of enterprise and publie spirit, who are not afraid to invest their capital in manufacturiug industries. Hence the cause why we do not realize more fully the direct ben2tits which flow from our National Tariff. There is no industry that could be more successfully conducted in this Province than the \nanufacture of bvots and shoes, the growing demand for which. even by our own people, would so greatiy increase every year as to place such an enterprise, properly men- aged, bey md the possibility of fadure. Woald it not then be far better for those who are constantl; decrying the National Pelicy to advocate the necessity and advantages that would accrue to our people from the establish- ment of local industries, fostered under a protective tariff, rather than continuously whining over imaginary grievances existing only in tae imaginations of disappointed poli- ticians.
