Plans tit-ere made to visit Mrs. Calvin Smith, Rnseneath on Friday for a social evening and present lzer with a small gift from the institute. Mrs. Smith tneo Lila JEllRlllSl was a highly respected school teacher in Brudenell for several years prior to her marriage. On motion It was decided to send $5.00 to the United Emergency Fund for Bri- tain. and also canvass the district for the "Save the Children Fund." Plans were made for a “measur- ing party" to be held at the home of Mrs. Wm. Dewar on Jan. 21. Mrs. Beecher Dewar invited the members to her home for the February meeting, During the 50. cial hour which followed, an ad- dress was read to Mr. and Mrs. Cameron, and a gift. was present- od to them on behalf of the mem- ben. the occasion being their thirty-ninth wedding anniversary. Although taken by complete sur- prise, the honoured couple thank- ed their friends for their thought- fulness. The meeting closed with The King.

The meeting opened in regular form with the members observing n one-minute silence. Roll call was answered by l0 members. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Several let- ters were read by the secretary. Mrs. Hazel Ijlooley, and placed on absence of Mrl. Connie Clair, the financial report was read by Mrs. Lillian MacDon- ald. The report showed total re- ceipts of more than $500.00. with expenditures amounting to $463.65. which amount included $275.00 donated to the Legion towards re- novating the hall. Under new bus- iness the following slate of officers was elected for the coming year. President. ..'On Thursday evening the an- nual meeting o! the Canadian Le- gion, No. S, Montague Branch, was neld in the Legion Home with the president, Mr. Doug MacGotvan. presiding. The meeting opened by observing the one-nunute silence. after which the business meeting was opened. Ml‘. J. W. Lardner, secretary, read the financial re- port in which there appeared a clear account of the receipts lrum the Legion Carnival which “as held in October. The total receipts were expended on the Legion Home in remodelling the building. The building has been pi-oviaea mth a new foundation of rock and cement, a new enlarged kitchen. a new hardwood floor downstairs, and a new softwood tloor upstairs. and the central portion has been replaced to make two excellent stores which they are oifering lor rental. Besides this the Ladies‘ Auxiliary o! the Legion has with- stood the cost or painting the building, so that the LCQIOII Home is now a great asset. to the com- munlty. and a building of which the citizens are justly proud. The paid-up membership for the past War W85 60 members, and 13 new members have been received. It was lurther stated that plane are now being formulated to tin- ance a new water system so as to provide convenience in the building. Mr. Malcolm Clair was elected chairman of the cigarette fund for veterans in hospitglg, It was moved by G. MacDonald, and seconded by R. Dewar that the Branch have one mght g month for entertainment.
