Lobster Fishermen Slated To

Begin Line-runn

At high noon today lobster lines will be run marking the be- ginning of another two-month lobster fishing season. Although the season begins officially on May 1. fishermen are pennltted to till) the day previous. Some few will undoubtedly set traps and the first lobsters will hit the mar- kcl on Tuesday. However. the first big haul will not be made until Wednesday or,Thursday af- ter the traps are set.

Countless hundreds of traps are ready all along the north. mist and southeast shores in preparation for the full trap set- tint; on Tuesday. Boats will set nui today from Wood Islands. Lillie Sands. Beach Point, Mur- r.-- I-iarbor. Gaspereaux, Stur- -. Panmiirc Island. Lower Itiontague,- Georgetown, DeGros .., .... Launching, Annandale, l-I 'lunc. Sourls. South Lake. Nortii Lake and along the North Shore.

Red Head and Savage Harbor. The average trap fleet will be 250 to 300. but several fishermen are running 400 to 500 traps. in all about 140.- 000 traps will be laid.

Canning factories along the coast will not be canning in the same number as previous years. The two large canning factories at Souris will operate. together with I! few in South Kings. It is understood that canning factor- ies on the North Shore will not be operating. but that the lab- sters will be moved out by truck in the live state.

Barring the advent of contrary winds. the fishermen anticipate no difficulty in running their lines in the relatively ice-frec BTEBF. -

No official starting prices for this season have yet been quoted. Fishermen on the whole are op- timistic for a good year.

FRANCIS ELMER ROBERTS

Many hearts were saddened when it was learned that Elmer Roberts of Middleton had passed away after a short illness in the Prince County Hospital at the age of forty-nine years. He was the

” son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry

Roberts of Middleton. and receiv- ed his early education there and

- later at Prince of Wales College.

He was a brilliant student and fol- lowed the profession of school teaching for over fourteen years. In 1937 he married Mary MacDon- ald of Borden. He spent a year in Ottawa in Civil Service before e listing in the Armed Forces. In 1942 he went overseas with the Cape Breton Highlanders but when his father passed away a few years later. he returned home and with his wife and family engaged in farming on the homestead. Last. year he again began teaching and at the time of his death was teach- er at Coleman School.

Elmer was well and favorably known by a host of friends and many from far and near came to his home to voice their sorrow at his early passing and extended heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife and two sons Charles and Ron- nie, both at home; and two sisters Blanche, Mrs. Leo McGrath, Jer- sey City. N..i. and Virtus. Mrs. John Lutes of Moncton.

The funeral which was largely attended was held on Saturday. April 14 to St. Malachy's Church, Kinkora where Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. T.P. Hammill who also officiated at the grave. Rev. R.F. MacDonald was present in the SBIICI-I.Il'Y. Memb- ers of the Canadian Legion'attend- ed in a body and their graveside service was read by Comrade Emery Richard. Last Post and Reveille were sounded by Bugler Alban Gallant.

The pallbearers were Charles I":Cardle, Cecil Mt-Cabe Leonard Roberts. Thomas Hammiil. Bert Iiaminill and Jngeph Morris. In- terment was in the Church Cemet- cry.
