Briefly, the student withdrew from school after the first semester and tlne university sued for tuition and residence fees they clained were due for the secand semester. In deciding against the student, the court ruled that the university calendar in- cluded in most pre—regist- ration kits represented a binding contract between the student and tlne university. In other words, by accepting an invitation to attend a university, the student accepts the university calendar as a binding

contract — in the strictest

legal sense. To quote from the court's decision:

If tlnere were Beothuks still around, would the sport be defended as part of the culture?

As for jobs, let the governments and private interests develop more humane jobs in Newfound— land; perhaps a synthetic fur industry might be viable. Why should seals suffer because of human
