The water famine in Patterson, N. The city election passed off quietly, re- sulting in an average. Republican majority of about 2,500. The Republicans elect eleven Aldermen and the Democrats five. The Common Council stand eighteen Re publicans and twelve Democrats.

Tuesday was the second day of registra- tion in Brooklyn, and the total number of voters registered was 438,041, making a total registration for the first two days of 91,710. The total registration for the first two days of 1879 was 62.02%, and for the first two days of 1876, 71,546.

Rowe had on exhibition samples of chicory,—raw, partially pre- pared, and prepared for use. The roots as they came from the field are said to be las good as can be grown anywhere.
