Of course, he may begin drinking again. and thus reacquire the habit; but he can be cured a second time as easily as before. The morphine habit is equally amenable to the cure, though 1t takes a little longer than alcoholism. ‘The cocaine habit can be cured in thirty-six hours. Dr. Oppen- heimer, who discovered the specific, had some amusing experiences in coming the skepticism of some of his pa- tients, About a year ago two friends of his wound up a dicussion on the merits of the discovery by making a_ bet that one of them could take three doses of the medicine on each of two successive days and then take a drink of whiskey. Dr. Oppenheimer said he cculdn’t, and the other friend backed his judgment. After taking the medicine the patient went to a saloon and @rdered whiskey. On sipping it he declared thet it had been doctored, and exclaiming that it was ‘‘worse than cod liver oll,”’ refused to try it again. It was two months be fore he could take even a little claret with his dinner, and he spent a good part of the intervening time in abusing Dr. Oppenheimer and his specific.

While the fact that the roar of Niagara Falls has recently been heard in New York over the telephone is generally known, but little has been said of the novel manner in which the transmitter was brought within range of the noise of the falling water. After investigation, it was decided that the Cave cf the Winds would be the best place at which to agther the sound, as there the falis can he approached more closely than at al any other place.
