1t was good clover. It was sweet and still tender enough to be good eating. Like Peter Rabbit, a Meadow Mouse loves clover Grasses and other green things are good but not so good as clover. Young Mrs. Meadow Mouse nib- bied a little. but she didn't settle down to eating as Mr. Mouse did. little paths that crossed and recrossed through the path o! clover. They had been made by other Mice. lt was a big patch o! clover. Indeed ' was more than a patch.

Just outside the clover was some coarse grass. Some of it ﬂew in bunches. One o1’ these was riulte big. “Come here," sqiieaked young lillrs. Mouse.

Young Mr. Mouse hurried lo join her." What is it?" he wanted io know at once.

“I've iound it. This is lt." she squeaked happily.

He stared around with a puzzled 100k. "What is it? What have you found?" he asked.

“The place for our new home." squelked Mrs. Mouse.

Min-Mouse looked as puzzled as ever, perhaps more so. "Where? I don't see any place for a home." He spoke a bit impatiently. He ivanted to get back to the clover. Just then he was more interested in ﬁlling his stomach than in a home. Time to think of that when he‘ had illled his stomach. A home was important, but Just then his stomach was more important. Then Mrs. Mouse set to work to lurnish it. She lined it with coarse dry grass. Then she lined that with line. soft, dry grass and plant fibers. Wlien it was finished to ‘suit her it was as warm and snug and comiortable a home as any Meadow Mouse ever had. Best of ‘ally it was a safe home. No suit!- u-rg nose was likely to iirid it. HOIPr less babies would be quite sale in it. They would be warm and dry ‘even if ii: was the beginning o! winter. That tunnel led right into the clover, and what more could imy. Mouse ask?"

"It is perfect." sighed Mrs. Mouse happily when the last bit oi’ sort grass was in place, And so it was as any Mouse would have agreed.
