An indignant protest has gone up from every French paper of note in the pro- vince of Quebec against the campaigu of La Patrie and Le Sud in favor of annexa- tion.
Le Monde is particularly severe and scouts the idea that Farrer, of the Globe, Beaugrand, of La Patrie, Rouillard, of Le Sud, or any other trinity of traitors, should presume to speak for the people of the Dominion. Le Monde declares, how- ever, that these papers speak for Mr. Laurier and Sir Richard Cartwright and that the souner the people of Canada understand what the policy of the Grit party ia the better for all concerned
