In 1542 James died, and the order was discontinued about the time of the reformation. ‘he order was renewed by James VII. of Scotland and II. of England, by making ght knights, May 29, 1687. It was increased to welve by Queen Anne in 1703; to sixteen by George IV., in 1827.
