Dean-designate

Dr. Kenneth L. Dzmon, Chairman of the Depart- ment of Psychology, has been appointed Dean of

the Faculty of Arts for a period of six years, it was. . ”

announced following the regular meeting of the Board of Governors in February. Dr. Ozmon,‘who succeeds Professor John Smith, will take up his duties starting on July 1. Prof. Smith, the first Dean of Arts at the University, will resume his full-time teaching career in the Department of English.

A native of Virginia, Dr. Ozmon took his u' 1r-

" graduate studies at St. Bernard College, Alabu'na

where he graduated magna cum laude in 1955 In 1963 he received his master’s degree from Catholic University of America, Washington D.C. In 1963 he earned his doctorate at the University of Maine. Joining the UPEl faculty in 196935 an Associate Professor of Psychology, he was named Chairman of

' - the Department the following year.

After several years of teaching in Alabama, Dr. Ozmon became concurrently, a visiting lecturer at Marianopolis College, and discussion leader of Thomas More Institute, both in Montreal. Following

a teaching position at the University of TVIaine, he became assistant professor of psychology at Chico State College, California. The newly appointed Dean was a visiting lecturer at St. Dunstan's University during the 1967 summer session.

A search committee (an ad hoc committee of the Senate) to find a new Dean of Arts, was set up in February 1971. Applications for the position were entertained from outside UPEI, as well as among members of the University faculty. Early in February the committee voted unanimously to re- commend Dr. Ozmon for the position of Dean of Arts, to the Board of Governors.

Since coming to Charlottetown Dr. Ozmon has been active both in academic and community circles. He isa university senator and is vice-president of the Faculty Association. The Dean-designate is president of the Charlottetown branch of the Canadian Asso- ciation for Mental Retardation; he serves on the board of governors of the Alcoholism Foundation of P.E.l; he is a director of the Provincial Association

:for Mentally Retarded. Dr. Ozmon also has lectured

with the Rural Development Council. He is married
