In these days when our energies are concentrating 0n conserving our resources and righting some of the wrongs and crueltles rampant in the world iocay, would it. not be well to give some thought t0 some of those ccmmit/led lIi our own country, and try t0 do some- thing to have them corrected? 1 refer to the crueltles imposed upon helpless wild-life by the use of the steel trap.

In North America alone, over one hundred millions of vvarm- blooded animals are caught in steel traps every year, and at the present moment countless thou- sands are suffering untold agonles p! pain, cold, hunger, thirst and ear.

Numerous sales of Canadian cat- tle were made on the Buffalo mar- ket with steers rarrgnig from a top of $13.35 down to $11. An odd small lot. sold as low as $10.25. These prices would be equal to about $.60 for light steers and heifers, up to $12.50 for best weighty steers at Toronto, or about 50c to 75c above the Toronto price level. Toronto requires very few heavy cattle for the local trade and consequenfly, Ontario's choice heavy steers mostly move across the border. At St. Paul, the trade was strong to 25c higher with medium grade Canadian steers $10.50 to $11.75, good from $12 to $12.75. Cows were steady with good beef kinds, as well as sausage bulls, mak- ing $9.75 t0 810.
