Major '1'. B. Rogers Dominion Government had an "architectural monstrosity“. the Post Office Biiuding. which they could tear down if they wished tn make room for a larger buildtniz. All talk of the City selling thr. _Market Building should be dis- couraged. he said.

Mr. Morton Dew said he was ,, ’ to the idea of any pol- alble sale of the Market Building. If the Dominion Government wanted a site for the construc- tion of an office building. it was his opinion an area. on the south side of Richmond Qti-aat would be suitable and would result in the removal of buildings which were not an asset. to the City.

Col. Stewart said "there were lots of other places in the City which could be_ used for such a site." The Market Square now served u s parking place for the merchants‘ cars. The Colonel could not see that it would make mucn difference where the income tax offices were located. The people had to go to the oflices anyway so that the location of the build- lng should not unduly worry the income tea officials.

If the Dominion Government insists on the Mar- ket. Building site, Mr. Hyndman said, there was no reason why the city should not be fully compen- sated with a building to replace the present Market.

“Whereas the Car-Ferry service between Borden, Prince Edumvd Island, and Tormcntine. New Brunswick. was instituted by the Dominion of Canada. in part ful- filment of its obligations under the Confederation Agreement, t0 supply efficient continuous coni- munication all the year around.

"And Whereas the Dominion .was to assume and defray all the ‘charges for such service,

“And Whereas there was no permission granted under the said jagreement, to delegate authority i in the supplying of required ser- ' vices. nor to place a barrier on I traiflc by excessive charges, . "And Whereas the Duncan Roy- I al Commission recommende‘. that the cost of operations. should not - be a charge against the Canadian i National Railways, which manage

operations, but should be a ~charge against the Consolidated i Revenue of Canada. . "And Whereas it is confidently

"And Whereas a long existing bottleneck, at Borden and Torin- entlne, has retarded development of industry and the tourist traf- fic. that an auxiliary ferry be specially constructed to.tnke care of increasing motor traffic, so that this Province will be placed on a parity with the mainland, and take its rightful place as a partner of Confederation, ,

"And Whereas. ench yoar. it is unfortunately publicized that a doflcit has resulted in operations of the Car-Ferry, without appar- ently giving due orcclit for "in and out" long-haul traffic that the Perry develops. and which ls conservatively estimated to pro- vide revenue valued at several million dollars per annum.

"ls It Therefore Resolved. that. in the opinion of this Board of ‘Irade, the Province of Prince Ed- ward Island, n party to the Con- fe oration Agreement. be respect- ful y requested to make immediate demand on the Dominion of Can- ada. that the charges for all mot- or traffic on said Ferry system be accordingly reduced and treat.- ed in future on the basis of a National Highway; and that an auxiliary Ferry be supplied with the least possible delay." ‘
