Devotion to duty is the theme of Argosy Pictures‘ drama, “The Fugitive.“ starring Henry Fonda, Dolores del Rio and Pedro Ar- mendsriz which is now st the Prince Edward Theatre.

One of the first American pic- tures to be filmed in Latin-Am- erica, the story has as its hero a courageous priest. Defying a gov- ernment ban against all religious activity, the Father quietly goes bout his duties in the little jungle villages while a squad of police eagerly» seeks his capture.

How n beautiful native girl helps him escape to the safety of another country, and how the call of duty brings him back again into the clutches of his enemies, forms the stirring climax.

Fonda portrays the priest and Miss del Rio the village girl, with Armendariz, a top favorite of the Spanish-speaking screen, in the role of the implacable police lieu- tenant. J’. Carrol Naish. Ward Bond, Leo Carrillo, Robert Arm- strong and. John Qualen are feat- ured in the picture, which was directed by John Ford for RKO Radio release.

Miss Mary MacKiznnon has re-i turned to her horns at Whlm Road ‘after spending the past month with her‘ sister, Mrs. Ira I-Iill in Mnyfield.

Mrs. Wesley Campbell and Mira. Garnet Moore returned to Whlm Road after spending the past two days as delegates to the Womens Institute convention in Charlotte- town.

A church service was held m Whlm Road School on Sunday. July 8rd, by Rev. Dr. AD. Mac- Kenzlo of Montague Unit-ed Church. This is Dr. MacKenziela first service here since Rev. AB. Adams left Montague a short time ago.

A record crowd attended the on- nual Kilmulr School picnic, held on June 30th at Launching. Mac- Cvowans Ltd., kindly donated their large truck tn take the picnicers there. All the children Present were delighted when a treat Wei given to them, donated by their teacher, Miss Clara Fraser. The rest of the afternoon was spent swlmmln! and playini! samea- Be- fore it was time to 80 110109- the ladies of the district prepared a delicious picnic supper Mid ‘his was thoroughly enjoyed by every- 011C.

The rate-payers of Whlm Road attended the annual school meet.- ing as usual. That the district is keenly interested in education was shown by the number who nt- tended. Tho usual routine expen- ditures were voted. together with o sum to continue the repairs and alterations which were begun sev- eral years ago. Credit for leader- ship in renovating the school is due io the Women's Institute, who, in 1941 supplied a large percent- age of the funds required so that the district could take advantage of the government grant for im- provement of school property. ‘Iths first year. new cloak rooms were built in the school and the ent- rance was changed to eliminate many drafts from the buldlng. In 1948 the district took over and re- modelled the lighting arrange- ments according to specifications laid down by the Department oi Education. This year, funds were voted to pslnt the new windows and to decorate the interior of the school. Money was also voted to begin work on a. larger playground for the children.

The school closed on June 30th. The teacher, Mrs. Russell Mac- Beth ylCIQHM the prizes to the pupils snd distributed s treat which was supplied by the Wom- en's Institute. The percentage at- tained by the pupils for the month of June were as follows: Vernon Nicholson 06 per cent; Robert Stuart 8D per cont; Betty McBeth 88 per cent; John Clarey 86 per cent; Mary K. Munro Bil per cent; Edith MacDonald N per cent: Jean Ann Munro 83 per cent",

Mr. Reginald Phalen has arrived home to spend his vacation. Mr. P-halen graduated from S.D.U. last year and entered the seminary lost fall. He will be home all summer and like most. students will find plenty to do around the form.

Mr. Lester McVsrish. operator of the packing plant st. St. Peter's Harbor has been in the city for s few days. He reports the outlook for the fisherman pretty poor at present as it is hsrd to sell any cod fish and tho packing plants are closed.
